Jury Selection Continues In Gillihan Case In Grant County

After noon today six jurors were chosen for the Gillihan murder trial in Sixth Judicial District Court Judge Norman Hodges presiding. Prosecutor E G Serna seeks the death penalty. defendant Riley van Gillket, 87, pleads innocent. Victims Andrea Rodriguez, 55, her son Daviel, 30s, sister Marte Rodrigues, 44, and friend Mnises Rodrigues, 45, were found near a rural Georgetown road in March after traveling from Grant County town.

Five Basic Adult Education Classes To Be Offered Here

Five basic adult education courses start in Grant County for residents 18 and older. Co sponsored by Silver and Cobre districts and Western New Mexico University, funded by state and federal sources. Classes run nine months through June 26, 1963, with 24 students each, first come first served. GED allows high school equivalency. Ramirez Dies Suddenly In Los Angeles

Simon A Ramirez age 26 formerly of Santa Rita dies after illness in Los Angeles California on Sunday September 13. He was a 1961 Cobre High School graduate and worked for Occidental Life Insurance. Mini Balloon Sighted Over Silver City Today

A small balloon launched from Palestine Texas carried cosmic studies instruments and appeared at dawn over the Silver City region. It floated around 130000 feet as sunlight reflected off its surface causing early risers to notice motion. The NA C R planned the launch as part of a series using westward drift. It was destined to land near Winslow in northern Arizona.

City Manager Interviews Slated Here

Two applicants for the city manager post in Silver City were reached by the Town Council Monday night. A third applicant could not be contacted, with another attempt planned. One candidate will interview Wednesday in Silver City, the other arrives Monday for an interview. the position has been vacant since September 1 after Richard Cunningham resigned for a Kansas post.

Fire damages Snappy Mart Five on Silver Heights Boulevard

Firefighters responded to a blaze at Snappy Mart Five on Silver Heights Boulevard around 11 p.m. Monday. The Silver City Fire Department deployed two trucks, suspecting an overheated electrical motor as the cause. smoke ejectors were used and the motor removed. The store remains open today.

Lucille Harlan 66 a Silver City resident for 42 years died Monday night at Hillcrest General Hospital after a lengthy illness. Survived by husband John G. Refinery Explodes In Texas Fire Destroys Homes

A series of explosions at the Atlantic Richfield refinery in Port Arthur Texas triggered a massive fire that forced the evacuation of about 1 000 residents from Fairlea and Wimwood housing additions.
