President Signs CAP for Colorado River Basin Water Plan

President Johnson signed a package authorizing 2.31 billion for Colorado River Basin water development. It includes the Central Arizona Project to bring water to Phoenix and Tucson and support irrigation. The plan envisions a private power plant funding, with federal advance payments of 100 million, and calls for Animas la Plata irrigation and Hooker Dam in New Mexico and Colorado.

Willow Creek Aspencade Slated for October 13

The fifth annual Willow Creek Aspencade will occur Sunday Oct 13 led by Lewis Foster of the Silver City Grant County Chamber of Commerce. Forest Service guides will lead a 10 am Glenwood start visiting Mogollon Ben Lilly Campground and Willow Creek areas with a 1 pm barbecue lunch. Reservations advised by Oct 11 via the chamber.

Fire Department Answers Three Alarms on Sunday

Silver City firemen responded to three calls. At 1 01 a m they checked 1104 West Seventh Street where smoke drifted from a weed burning area. A stand by at Tail Bay Motors on Bullard Street followed. At 1 18 p m they fought a grass fire at 1409 Kentucky Street with no damage reported.

City Manager Applicants Interviewed in SLU City Council Session

Two more applicants for the city manager post were interviewed by the Town of SLU ver City council. Mayor Lowell Cain said more interviews were possible, with the appointment to appear on the next regular board meeting agenda at 7 p.m. October 7 at city hall.
