Separate From Husbands Women Seek Independent Credit

Women press forward to establish credit in their own names aided by new federal laws. Diners Club reports 55,000 women with individual cards by Jan 1 1977, up 28 percent from 1976. Visa notes 37.2 percent of surveyed women own cards. Master Charge 14.4 million women cardholders in 1976. New laws prohibit lenders from using marital status or a husband’s income to deny or alter credit. Dual reporting of accounts will become standard. notices to existing joint accounts advise on dual listings. Publications offered include guides from FTC, Associated Credit Bureaus, and American Express.

Copper unions push back on cost of living change

Strike notes continuing from Page One as copper unions warn a proposed cost of living adjustment would wreck the plan. Cass Alvin, spokesman for more than 20 unions, says bargaining is fluid. At Anamax Mining Co. 95 workers will be laid off next Friday at Twin Buttes mine near Tucson due to weak copper market. contracts for 1,800 Anamax workers expire July 31.

GI Forum pushes water rights protection at national convention

Norero announced state approval of a water rights resolution and urged airing at the Albuquerque national convention in August. He cited a Portillo attendance pledge and hoped for President Carter’s presence, while noting GI Forum will also address illegal alien concerns and opposition to the Rodino Bill.

Jury Grand Jury petitions expand as Mesa pushes review

Entrepreneur Greg Mesa reports 14 additional names filed with the District Court Clerk to reach the 75 required by law for a new grand jury. He notes 103 were submitted previously but some were disqualified. He expects six of the new names will meet criteria and says the petition seeks investigation of District Attorney E. C. Serna’s office.

Los Alamos to host hot dry rock geothermal conference

Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory will host a three day meeting on its unique hot dry rock geothermal energy program. Delegates from about a dozen countries will attend co sponsored by LASL NATO and the NATO Committee on Challenges of Modern Society. Tours of the site are planned on the final day.

Perry Ritchie, an Albuquerque resident and UNM class of 1950 member, was named the new president of the University of New Mexico Alumni Association for a one year term. She succeeds Bill Brannin after a Saturday board meeting and has chaired the finance committee. New board members from Albuquerque and other areas join the 0,000 member group.

Prisoner Re Captured After Escape Near Albuquerque

A 20 year old man Bernie Loranca recaptured after escape from Bernalillo jail transportation near Albuquerque. He was stopped by Officer Ron Sanchez as he rode in a vehicle with Joseph Dominguez 19, who faces rape charges. Both had escaped Montessa Park Detention Center last Wednesday during transfer from the county jail. Loranca is held on commercial burglary charges.

William M. Bagley 74 of Silver City died Friday June 24 at home. He lived 42 years in Corona New Mexico before moving to Silver City. Survived by wife Alice three sons Bill Robert John of Anchorage and Silver City. two daughters Anelle Bury Cecil Wisconsin and Patricia Bassett Westminster Colorado. two brothers Clyde Vernon Texas and C T Lewiston Washington. two sisters Elgie Chaney and Lucille Reed Vernon Texas. and 16 grandchildren. Forced Entry Investigated Over Attempted RX Fee Theft

Silver City police probe an apparent burglary at RX Fee System Pharmacy on Silver Heights Blvd. Chief Thomas Ryan says the front door was discovered damaged at about 6:24 a.m. Pharmacist Frank Blanton reports vandals tried to breach both front and back doors with a crowbar, but entry was not gained. Estimated damage runs to 400 dollars on the front door and 160 dollars on the back door.

Graveside services for Ellis M Hunter set for Tuesday

Ellis M Hunter’s graveside service will occur Tuesday at 2 30 pm at Memory Lane Cemetery with Rev Billy Foster of Bayard Baptist Church officiating.
