Crowded Facilities Highlight Silver City Summer Program

Grant County youngsters flocked to Silver City summer recreation, with over 1,000 participants and 750 in swimming lessons. Facilities were strained, prompting calls for expanded spaces and county funding. Programs spanned baseball, gymnastics, reading, basketball, weight lifting, tennis, drama, music, baton, golf, and a large teen dance. The Grants County Aquatic Club excelled, while the second swim session continued and hosting duties for district meets were announced.

Retailers Chamber to host speaker William Kundrat Jr

Administrator Candidate In Silver City Today

Norman H. Meyer of New York City is expected in Silver City to meet Hillcrest General Hospital officials and trustees. Paul Wright, the hospital administrator, said the board continues to screen applicants and plans an informal meeting on Meyer’s arrival after traveling from Albuquerque.

Viet Cong attackers infiltrated Tuy Hoa air base in central South Vietnam and destroyed two four engine C130 transports and damaged an F100 Super Sabre. Rotary Luncheon Speaker Bill Askins To Attend

Guest speaker Bill Askins of Inter-Mountain Aircraft will speak at the Rotary noon luncheon at the Holiday Inn on July 30. He is stationed in Silver City during forest fire season directing helicopter operations under a U S Forest Service contract. He will show a film on the Heli-Darter helicopter used in fighting fires.

Weather soars as temps rise with scattered afternoon storms

Morning fair gives way to partly cloudy skies and evening thunder showers through Tuesday. Sunday's high reached 42 in Silver City with a low of 57 and .38 inches of rain. Airport reports show highs near 8 and 6 with a 40 inch rainfall reading. Forecast calls for a high of 86 and a low around 4 tonight, with Tuesday expected to reach 86.
