Shots Fired Near Tyrone Reported At Big Sky Trailer Park

Grant County Chief Deputy George Barela said Athan reported a near miss by a bullet at 6 30 p m Monday at the Big Sky Trailer Park Tyrone. The shooter location behind a ditch was unseen and Barela urged hunters to stay at least one mile from homes and advise children on safe firearm use.

Trial date set for Tijerina land grant followers

In Santa Fe AP report, Rofes Topez Tijerina and ten land grant claimant followers may face trial November 12 on kidnapping and related charges from the June 1967 Rio Arriba County courthouse raid. Judge Paul Larras postponed arraignment to September 11 amid eight new motions challenging indictments.

Li Crees of Hurley dies at Rolling Hills Rest Home in Coleman Texas. Funeral set for July 16 at Stevens Mortuary with burial in Voss beside wife. Addition To Mountain States Telephone Building Started

Construction on a large addition to the Mountain States Telephone building in Silver City has begun. The project across the back of the current site on Pope will cost over 200000 dollars and is due for completion in mid November. The expansion adds dial equipment, space for a microwave system, standby power, and a larger climate control system to meet growing demand.

Blaze reported on Gila National Forest

Lightning sparked a snag blaze on the Silver City District of the Gila National Forest late Monday night. A helitack crew from MeQwa worked the scene and extinguished the fire as scattered showers fell in parts of the forest though dry areas kept fire danger evident.

Youth Shot Accidentally Near Saddle Rock

A 11 year old boy was accidentally shot in the right foot at Saddle Rock, 11 miles west of Silver City. The bullet came from a .22 rifle in the hands of his 16 year old brother while the pair walked down a till. Robert Lubbentusen, 50, the father, took the injured boy to Hillcrest General Hospital for treatment.

Miss Culberson Native Of County Dies In Ohio

Ruth Culberson a native of Grant County and member of the Pioneer Mlening family died Sunday in Mansfield Ohio. She had resided in Mansfield for years and served as a watcher at Ohio State University. Friends are asked to donate to the Ohio State Library in lieu of flowers.
