United Appeals Launches 1959 Hardin County Fund Drive

United Appeals of Hardin County begins its 1959 fundraising drive led by Thos E Bell and Gus Hussman with a $27500 quota. A kick off dinner is planned at Kountze high school. County chair Rev Grant Herbst and Clark Allen lead a county wide effort with quotas for Red Cross, Trinity Neches Council, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, USD, Muscular Dystrophy, and Health and Welfare. The plan avoids house to house calls and targets workplaces with pledges payable by installments or bank drafts. completion set for Oct 9.

Tigers Meet Port Acres In First Game At Home

In soggy conditions the Silsbee Mustangs beat Aldine 12 to 6 on the road with Mike McMahon their dominant fullback rushing for most of the yardage. McMahon’s two long scoring runs and key holes opened by guard Jimmy Turk powered the win despite Aldine’s late surge.

City repairs funded after heavy weekend rains

Heavy weekend rains of over 16 inches damaged city streets in the county taking about $1,000 to fix. Frank Payne told the city council they will need to shift funds and plan for the day the city handles its own street maintenance. Julian Hutto of Spurger Dies In Highway Mishap

Funeral services were held for Julian Hutto 33 of Spurger killed in a car truck crash Friday night on the Silsbee highway south of Spurger. He died at Tyler County Hospital in Woodville and leaves a widow, parents, two brothers, a sister, and other relatives.

Four Drunk Drivers Plead Guilty In Hardin County Court

In Hardin county court last week four drivers pleaded guilty to alcohol related offenses. Judges imposed fines of 50 dollars plus costs and three day jail terms for Tommy Williams Jr. of Honey Island Sept 15 S R Blankenship Sept 16 Frank D Goings of Woodville Sept 18 C A Crouch Sept 22 and J R Treadway of Chance Sept 22 faced penalties of 25 dollars and costs for driving with license suspended. Fifteen arrests were reported at the county jail including nine drunks three DWI and two disturbances.

New $20,000 Clubhouse Planned At Silsbee Golf And Country Club

Silsbee Golf and Country Club plans a $20,000 clubhouse with air conditioning and a ballroom. A special meeting approved the plan as members vote to raise dues by $2 monthly to finance construction. Southern Building and Construction Co. bid $16,240.82, with AC and equipment bringing total costs higher.

No Trace Of Hit-Run Driver Who Struck Boy Thursday

Jerry Lynn Collier an 11 year old of Silsbee was struck Thursday night while walking with his brother on a dirt road near Triangle Refineries north of Kirby sawmill. No arrests or leads were reported by Hardin County Sheriff's Office as of Wednesday. A white 1955 Ford was suspected but not confirmed.

Heavy Weekend Rain Deluges Silsbee Area

Rainfall from Friday night through Sunday morning dumped about 14.5 inches on Silsbee and Hardin County. Cities and streets along North 5th Payne Road and Highway 96 South flooded, with sections of Clark's Drive Inn under water and ditches overflowing. Local streams rose over ten inches as storms peaked Saturday night.

Burglary Sentences Five Years Each for Two Tyler County Men

Two Tyler County men, Billy C. Lamb and Clifford G. Gibson, pleaded guilty to four burglary with intent to commit theft cases in 88th District Court in Kountze.
