Jury selection began Wednesday in Kountze for the trial of Mrs. Elma Lois Bowles indicted for the murder of her brother in law James Earl Harvey of Loeb. Defense lawyer Joe Goodwin of Beaumont moved for a venue change after the case opened citing Hardin County publicity as a hurdle to a fair trial.

Bryan Walker Dies Of Heart Attack While Vacationing
Bryan Walker aged 49 died of a heart attack Saturday during a Freeport vacation with his family. Services were Monday at First Methodist Church Lake Jackson with Rev. Weldon B. Morton. Burial followed at Brookside Cemetery Houston. Survivors include wife Ruby of Silsbee, daughter Bobby Jean Walker of Houston, son Donald Walker of Moss Point Mississippi, two grandchildren, three sisters and three brothers. He had lived in Silsbee 11 years and ran Walker's Place tavern east of town.

Two Plead Guilty In County Court
Two men pleaded guilty in county court last week with fines issued by County Judge Fletcher Richardson. Arthur Dryden paid 25 dollars and costs for driving with suspended license, and S. L. Stanley settled 1 dollar and costs on a hot check count after restitution. Both cases dated October 17. The county jail housed 14 persons that week, including one drunken driving case, one car theft, two traffic offenses, and ten additional drunks.

County Program Planners Set Meeting For October 23
Hardin County Program Planning Committee met Tuesday night with seven members from four communities and extension agents due to a storm. Escaped Burglar Returned From Crowley La
Claude Harris thirty three, one of four Harden county jail escapees, was recaptured in Crowley Louisiana and brought back to Kountze jail. Sheriff Whitaker and Deputy Million transported him after officers notified of his burglary arrest. Harris faces a burglary indictment here. Judge H A Coe postponed ruling on the motion pending jury selection in the May 4 Harvey murder case. Bryant Bowles Jr. received a life sentence in July.
