Tigers topple Chiefs 18 2 for homecoming win

Silsbee Tigers beat West Orange 18 2 to stay in District 11 AAA title chase. McGallion threw for 90 yards and two touchdowns while Mitch Dinkle rushed 109 yards on 20 carries before exiting with an injury. Tigers forced five fumbles, recovering four, and held West Orange to 46 rushing yards in the first half.

Rita Lea Named Duchess at CavGil Cade Parade

Rita Lea daughter of Mr and Mrs Wayne Lea will represent Silsbee at the CavGil Cade event October 22 24 1970. Tigers to Meet SFA Eagles in Port Arthur Friday

Silsbee's Tigers head to Port Arthur Public School Stadium for a 7:30 p.m. clash with the Port Acres S F Austin Eagles. Port Acres sits near the district bottom with one win in three league games and an offense of 53 points this season. The Eagles allow 50 points per game, second to Jasper, over six contests.

Absentee Voting Begins Tuesday in Hardin County

Absentee voting started in Hardin County on Tuesday October 20 six days after the October 14 deadline. County Judge Emmett Lack said corrected ballots were obtained from Steck Warlick Co and Lamb Printing Co and that delays could affect overseas voters and the General Election. Randall Wood of the Secretary of State’s office said officials investigated the delay and stressed starting absentee balloting within legal limits.

North Hardin Baptist Church on Highway 92 north of Silsbee invites the public to Note Burning Day on Sunday. The event includes a noon picnic on the grounds, a 2 p.m. note burning service with Rev. Hickel Backs Big Thicket Park Plan in Texas

October Grand Jury Indicts Nine in Hardin County

The October term grand jury returned nine true bills on October 19 with one arrest, eleven no bills, and two referrals to County Court. Indictments include Jerry Wayne Haynes for two counts of robbery by assault and two counts of fondling and sodomy. Referred to County Court were possession of dangerous drugs charges against James Lee Ellis and Gail Lynn Parker.

Keuntze County Auditor Don Allums to Retire in 1971

Don Allums, county auditor for 32 years and four months, will retire effective January 1, 1971. H. A. Coe confirms retirement and seeks a qualified replacement. Allums, a Hardin County native and attorney admitted to the Texas Bar in 1934, began in 1938 with the county.

Speech Therapy Unit Approved For SISD

Silsbee Independent School District trustees voted October 14 to hire a speech therapist and start a speech and hearing therapy unit in January 1971. Supt. Don L. Hough said the Texas Education Agency had approved the unit and a qualified teacher had been located. The district plans to appoint the pro spective employee later in the fall.

Silsbee 1970 Homecoming Week Ends With Parade Honors

Tiger grid victory over West Orange Chiefs fuels homecoming events at Silsbee High School. The week featured a parade with winners named for hand and float contests, a street dance at Pine Plaza, and band competitions led by Silsbee High School Band. Ex‑Students Association elected Eddie VanWinkle president for 1971 while recognizing long‑time graduates and honored classes.
