Mrs Pearl Keown Buried After Fatal Crash

Funeral services for Pearl Donna Keown 52 Silsbee resident killed in a crash between Alexandria and Monroe Louisiana were held Monday at 2 30 p m in the Church of Christ with L Q Robinson pastor officiating. Her husband H C Keown and grandson Corky Keown were among the injured. survivors include two sons Curtis of Evadale and K R Keown of Orange, seven siblings and five other grandchildren. Burial followed at Franks Branch cemetery under Farmer Funeral Home.

Bud Caraway dies at 61 in Hotel Dieu services held

Final rites for Bud Caraway 51 lifelong Silsbee resident were held at 2 p m Tuesday at First Assembly of God with Rev. Buddy Speare and Rev. A J Hendrix officiating. He died at Hotel Dieu hospital in Beaumont Nov 16. A Kirby Lumber Corp Mill guard, he is survived by his wife Emma, four daughters Alice Broom Jackie Gregory Geneva Caraway and Juanita Shaver all of Silsbee a son Dick Caraway a brother Robert C Caraway four sisters Ada Caraway Hittie Jackson Alma Langston Lou Toller Beaumont and five grandchildren.

Clash Over Dog Law Splits Council and Police Chief

City Police Chief Grady Tarver and Councilman H. C. Hopkins argued at the last city council meeting over enforcement of the dog ordinance. Hopkins pressed for more dogs seized and tagged while Tarver noted limited manpower and detailed his efforts. Tarver offered to give up the dog catching job if his $50 monthly pay were cut. The council also extended time for City Cab Stand operator C. R. Fones to improve service and approved sewer system expenditures totaling 158,500 to date. A bid for a new patrol car was opened with Cummings Fence Co. of Beaumont low at 2,098 for fencing around the Woodrow water plant. Hopkins questioned the sewer easement width along Highway 96 S, with engineer Bob Blair explaining practical constraints.

November Programs For 20th Century Club Variety

The Stusbee 20th Century Club held its November meetings with book reviews and a Thanksgiving theme. On November 5 Mrs. Frank Grote and Mrs. D. D. McGowan hosted at Grote’s home, with L. P. Skinner and Oscar Baker leading a review of Victoria and Albert by Eve Ivn Anthony. On November 19 Mrs. O. H. Bertram hosted with co host Mrs. John K. Bower. leaders were Mrs. W. N. Brigance and Mrs. Edgar O’Neil. The program, Feast Days and Festivals, explored Old Testament Jewish feasts and Biblical festivals, with psalms performed by Mrs. Bertram.

Santa Claus Set for Silsbee Visits This November

Santa Claus will make his first appearance in Silsbee on Saturday November 29 with visits every Saturday in December and December 17 through 24. E M Prewitt announces the chambers merchants plan a six page shoppers guide and a city wide Early Bird sale. Lights along downtown will be turned on November 29 and remain through the season as Silsbee Chamber of Commerce sponsors the display.

Silsbee School Records Declared In Good Condition

Auditor B H Hughes told the Silsbee Independent School District board that the district's books are in good order and kept to standard procedures. The board approved a 48 passenger bus addition with George Smith hired as driver and Bill Sellers resigning. W H Baten was hired as a teacher replacement, gym floor repairs were authorized, and a $2082 payment to Southern Building and Construction for Kirby Stadium press box remodeling.

Two Die In Crash On Spurger Highway

A head on collision between a late model Buick and an old pickup on Farm Road 92 near Silsbee killed two men. Otis Hilliard Bussey 53 of Silsbee, driver of the pickup, and Presley Arceneaux 74 of Hamshire, a retired farmer, died at the scene or hospital. Funeral services were set for Bussey at the First Pentecostal Church of Silsbee and for Arceneaux at Assumption Catholic Church in Beaumont. The crash was investigated by Highway Patrolman Ira Gardnershire of Woodville.

Joint Thanksgiving Worship Is Planned

Rev Bobby G Roberts of Woodrow Baptist will give the principal address at the Community Thanksgiving Service sponsored by the Silsbee Ministers Fellowship next Wednesday at 8 p m at the First Methodist church. The First Methodist choir will direct the music and offerings will go to the Hardin County Health and Welfare Agency. Rev Larry Correll of the First Presbyterian urged area churches to participate and plan calendars around the service.

Marshall Strother ordained pastor in Barry Texas

Marshall Strother aged 32, son of Mr and Mrs Wad Strother of this city, was ordained pastor of First Baptist Church in Barry Texas. Service held at 3 p m Sunday. He studies for foreign missions at Fort Worth Baptist Seminary and will graduate in April while continuing night classes. He holds a teacher’s degree from Sam Houston State College and a master’s from Baylor. He has taught in public schools in Waco, Hampshire and Fort Worth. Funeral services for Sgt First Class Tom J. Robinson 36 of Fort Bragg North Carolina were held today at 2 p.m. in the Former Funeral chapel. He served in the Fifth Cavalry in the Pacific Theater and received the Purple Heart. He is survived by his wife a son a daughter his mother three brothers two sisters and a nephew. Burial followed at Knupple Cemetery.

Beaumont Man Injured In Two Car Crash Tuesday

Virgil Richardson of Beaumont an employee of East Texas Pulp and Paper was seriously injured in a two car crash two miles south of Silsbee on the Beaumont highway in rain. Lee Whisenant of Silsbee the other driver was uninjured and the Whisenant auto burst into flame after the collision. Richardson was taken to Baptist hospital in Beaumont and his brother Mack Richardson of Beaumont said he was following in another East Texas plant truck.
