A jury in Kountze returns a five year suspended sentence for William Archie Parks 28 of Silsbee in a statutory rape trial involving a 14 year old Silsbee girl Testimony began Tuesday after jury selection on Monday Prosecutors were Stanley Coe and Earl Stover Parks was defended by Earl Wills with other local residents named as jurors and witnesses including the rape victim who testified and was later sent to Gainesville School for Girls

Hearing Set Saturday in James Harvey Murder Case
James Earl Harvey was shot on his Loeb porch around 1 30 p m Sunday by Bowles who was arrested and charged with murder. Bowles denied bond and is held in Hardin county jail. Inquest returned a verdict of murder with malice aforethought. The shooting followed an argument with Mrs Bowles and involved Bowles driving from Chicago to confront Harvey. Funeral services for Harvey were held at Loeb Pentecostal church with burial in Resthaven cemetery.

Beaumont Man Drowns Aiding Son At Cooks Lake
Beaumont resident Elzie J. Duhon 46 drowned Sunday at Cooks Lake while attempting to help his son Richard 14 who was thought to be in trouble. Deputies from Silsbee retrieved the body after the family outing turned fatal near Loeb, about 10 miles south of Silsbee in Hardin County.
