Two youths charged in injury of boy in Silsbee

Elwood C. Gore 19 of Silsbee faced bond set at 2000 for aggravated assault after Jimmy Lee Doss 15 was struck by a 10 pound concrete block thrown from a moving pickup on West Avenue J March 20. A 15 year old juvenile was arrested and awaiting formal complaint. Doss sustained jaw fractures and teeth loss. he was taken to John Seeley Hospital in Galveston in fair condition. Gore posted bond and was released. juvenile remains in custody.

F N Hamilton of Lumberton announces candidacy for Place 5 on the Lumberton School Board with an April 4 election. Last Rites for Marvin Hooks Held in Silsbee Church

Final services for Marvin Ray Hooks 14 were held March 19 at the First Pentecostal Church with Rev. C M Duplissey officiating. Burial followed in Franks Branch Cemetery. He died March 18 at 3 45 am after a lengthy illness. Survivors include his parents Pleze Hooks two brothers Jerry Hooks Joe Williams and grandparents Lee Williams all of Silsbee.

Police Check Two Burglaries Here

Two Silsbee residents reported burglaries over the weekend totaling 438 dollars. Tom Simpson said a break in at 536 West Avenue M yielded 400 dollars in cash. Chester Williams reported 38 dollars stolen from Apartment B9A Prince Hall Villa by a woman named Louise. Both cases are under investigation.

Appeals Hearing Set For Treasurer Case Monday At 2

A hearing at 2 p.m. Monday, March 30, in the Court of Civil Appeals at the Jefferson County Courthouse will review Charles H. Newsom of Kountze v Herman Adams Jr and the Hardin County Democratic Executive Committee. Newsom appeals Judge Coe's March 16 ruling that all three Hardin County Treasurer candidates were ineligible and must refile. The opponents Versie Flowers and Henry M. Donelson have refiled. Newsom has not. Briefs were due by noon Friday March 27 for Newsom and by noon Monday March 30 for Adams and the Committee.

Services Held On Wednesday For Former Resident

Funeral services for W. L. McWilliams Sr. 66 of Abbeville were at 10 a.m. in the First Baptist Church with graveside rites at Knupple Cemetery Silsbee at 3 p.m. He died at home Tuesday morning. A Trinity native, he lived in Silsbee before moving to Abbeville in 1955. Survived by wife Hazel. daughter Mrs. R. J. Mushmache. son W. L. McWilliams Jr.. brother Sam McWilliams. four grandchildren.

Miss Hawthorne to Represent Silsbee at Dogwood Fete

Miss Shannon Hawthorne Miss Silsbee 1970 recently returned from Dallas where she attended Miss Dallas pageant and now prepares to travel to Woodville for the Dogwood Festival on Saturday April 4. She will parade then compete in the pageant and coronation with escort Randall Glenn Wallace. Sponsored annually by the Silsbee Chapter ABWA she is chaperoned during events and Fort Worth visit. Silsbee Woman Injured in Two Car Crash on March 19

Mrs. Clerk Eason Spell 75 of Silsbee was injured March 19 when her car rear collided with a vehicle driven by Mrs. Flora Lavine Vance 42 of Orange on Highway 92 seven tenths north of Silsbee. Rain slick pavement caused the crash as Vance stopped to yield for a turning car. Spell was taken to Silsbee Doctors Hospital then transferred to Baptist Hospital Beaumont with a broken jaw lacerations and possible internal injuries. She was reported in fair condition March 20.

City Wrecks Injure Two During Weekend

Silsbee police report two weekend wrecks injuring two. Larry Allen Smith, 18, of Buna, treated for lacerations after losing control of a 1966 Ford at South 4th Street and Avenue R. He was cited for failure to control speed. A second crash at Eas Highway 6 and South 31 Street involved a 196 Ford driven by Wishard and a 1963 Plymouth driven by Harper, causing about $1,000 damage. Wade A. Kelly, passenger in Harper’s car, treated for injuries. Wishard cited for running a stop sign.

Paul Georgas Sr Dies in Buffalo Texas

Longtime Buffalo resident Paul Georgas Sr 73 died after a brief illness. Last rites were held at Stewart Memorial Methodist Church in Buffalo Texas with services on Tuesday March 23. He owned Pauls Steak House for years and is survived by son Paul Georgas Jr of Silsbee a Chicago daughter stepchildren and two grandchildren.
