Silsbee police report a burglary at Jacque's Shoppe 195 East Avenue H on June 22 or 23. About $26 in cash and 30 size nine dresses were stolen, totaling $596, with no forced entry but back east doors found open.
Silsbee council discussed a proposed diagonal crossing across AT and SF yard tracks from South Seventh edge to North Sixth near Avenue I to eliminate a switch and small structure. City to meet with Santa Fe officials. parking issue on North Fifth and city recreation land talks also reviewed.
Hardin County Commissioners cut constable salaries in an economy drive. Albert McKinney Larry Miller and L C Kirk see pay drop from 250 to 1.25 monthly while E Red Ricks keeps 250. New sheriff staff approved including White at 12 per day and Young 15 per day with others debated. Bonds bought at 38 07813 total to save 12500. Board of Hospital Trustees named. Board of Equalization set to review 1970 tax rolls.
League President Martin Wilson named the 1970 Manager of the Year winners. Senior League winner Henry Earl Smith of Reds, Majors winner Pete Upchurch of Oilers, and Minor League winner Huey Mashaw of Reds. Final Major League standings list Oilers 104, Astros 95, Yankees 68, Braves 59, Pirates 292, Colt 45's 2. Top hitters include Mike Ratcliff, Terry Hulet, and Davey Irby.
State Senator Charles Wilson of Diboll will be principal speaker at the Silsbee Lions Club ladies night program and installation service for 1970 71 officers on Tuesday night June 30 in the Blue Bonnet Cafe clubroom. Mrs Harper named several defendants in Jefferson County including Annie Lee Allen Larry Milner Jean Jorgenson Jake Cline and Robert G Alston on various counts such as assault with intent to murder theft by bailee theft and worthless check No arrests were reported. James Edward Rice 61 of Silsbee was true billed June 11 by the Beaumont Criminal District Grand Jury for driving while intoxicated second offense.
Mrs Lee W Flowers of Silsbee High School has been appointed a regional judge for the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards Program of 1970. Judging committees will evaluate the writing skills and literary awareness of over 7500 selected high school students. Final lists are announced in November.

The Silsbee Crusade for Christ at Silsbee High School closed after 15 nights with attendance over 22 000 and 1900 plus in the audience. Rev F C Drake reported finances oversubscribed and 149 saved 103 rededicated 5 baptized 13 assured salvation and 39 called to full time service. A Friday youth rally drew 250 pledging Christian lives and 34 to full time vocations. 1000 pledged tithe and 200 couples renewed vows.
James M. Dear will serve as W M with John L King and others listed to be installed for the year. The called meeting at the Silsbee Masonic Temple Friday at 7 30 p m will install officers as well as witness L E Martin retiring as worshipful master and invites all Masons.
Negotiations between the Silsbee Independent School District and Pritchard and Abc ott appraisal engineers Houston were underway as of Monday to secure a professional appraisal of industrial property within the District. Sept. Jon. L. Hough reported that the Board of Equalization reviewed the 1970 tax revaluations in June and decided to hire a professional appraiser after challenges to the valuation. Present at the meeting were L. A. Yankie, Board chairman, H. N. Hopkins, Herbert Elmore, Tax Collector-Assessor L. D. Self, and Supt. Hough.
