Lift Station To Be Built For 19th St
Silsbee officials plan a sewage lift station for the South 19th Street area serving about 75 to 100 families. City Manager Ronald M. Hickerson announced that funds are in the current and upcoming budgets to construct the 12 inch main and provide sewer service, addressing a long standing pollution concern raised by resident Robert Edwards during a July 28 council session.

J C Lacy Returns For Trial On Assault Charge
Timothy Clarence Lacy twenty six of Kountze is charged with assault with intent to murder in the shooting of Silsbee Patrolman James L. Martin in January 1969. Lacy was returned to Hardin County for disposition after arraignment and bond set at fifty thousand dollars. He was committed to Rusk State Mental Hospital on January 30, 1969 and a bench warrant for transportation to Kountze was issued by District Judge H A Coe.

Youths Face Theft Charges Over Hog Thefts
Five Sour Lake youths were arrested for stealing six hogs from C. J. Toups. Thomas L. Burch 17 and Robert Voan 18 faced misdemeanor theft charges for one hog. two 16-year-olds and Gerald Copeland 17 faced felony theft charges. Bond was set at 1000 dollars for the felonies and 500 for Voan and Burch. All posted bonds and were freed.

Two-Vehicle Crash Injures Driver at Lumberton Y
At 3 20 p m Sunday a two car crash at the Lumberton Y on US 96 and US 69 injured driver William F Reid 61 of Port Arthur. His Dodge 1963 was struck by Noel Batton 53 in a Plymouth 1969. Reid was treated and released from Baptist Hospital Beaumont. He was cited for turning from an incorrect lane.

Eddie Byrd Denied Appeal By High Court
Eddie Ray Byrd of Beaumont must serve a 101 year prison term for robbery by firearms in Hardin County. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals rejected his arguments that the indictment was misdescribed and that a pistol found after arrest was discovered without a warrant. The high court upheld the conviction and sentence after Byrd shot a man who stopped to help, stole $200, and left the victim for dead.

Susan Lee Cocks Dies In Connecticut Motorcycle Crash
Miss Susan Lee Cocks 22 of Lebanon Connecticut died in a Norwich motorcycle crash along with a girlfriend, with no other vehicle involved. Funeral services were held July 25. Survivors include her parents Mr. and Mrs. T W Cocks and brother Lewin of Lebanon, and she was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. W L Brigance.

Bernice R. Gregg Dies on Port Neches Fishing Trip
Bernice R. Gregg 53 of Port Neches died on a fishing trip after being found in his boat Friday. Funeral service held Sunday at Central Baptist Church Port Neches with burial at Oak Bluff Cemetery. Survivors include his wife and two sons. Gregg worked for Gulf Oil Corp and was a Baptist. He had lived 24 years in Port Neches and was brother-in-law to J. T. Cawley.

Final Rites For J. T. Carrell
Funeral services for J. T. Carrell a 52 year old Silsbee resident and logging contractor were held at Franks Branch Church with Rev. W A Rashall officiating. Burial followed in Franks Branch Cemetery. Carrell was killed in a log truck accident near Bronson Saturday afternoon. He is survived by multiple relatives including wife Mollie R Carrell of Bronson, several children and grandchildren, plus numerous siblings.

The July 27 joint meeting of Silsbee City Council and Planning Commission reviewed the Comprehensive Urban Plan for water sewer and storm drain upgrades. Proposals include six new wells, a looping water system, a 500000 gallon storage tank by 1980, and expanded treatment plants with a new floor idation chamber. Also planned are school and park facilities by 1990 with neighborhood school neighborhood park concept.
