Woman Killed In One Car Accident Near Silsbee

Mrs Rose Robinson Wheat 22 of Port Neches died after losing control of a 1967 Pontiac on US 96 near Silsbee city limits. Her two young daughters Beth 4 and Linda Carol 1 were treated for minor injuries, funeral arrangements set for 2 p m Thursday at Farmer Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Knapple Cemetery. Lumberton resident Ray Martin seeks JP Precinct 2 seat

One Hit and Run Driver Arrested Near Beaumont

The report states a hit and run on January 25 two miles north of Beaumont on U S 69. Wilson J Miller of New Iberia Louisiana drove a 1970 Chevrolet pickup while a blue 1964 Ford with Texas MMY 67 fled after hitting Miller’s vehicle at Mitchell Road. Police are seeking the Ford driver while Miller was not injured.

Five Crashes Reported With 3375 In Damages

Silsbee police logged five auto crashes last week totaling about 3375 in damage. On Saturday January 24 two collisions occurred at Highway 96 and 327 injuring no one. a 1969 Oldsmobile driven by Melvin Chess and a 1969 Ford driven by Bud Hooks collided while turning onto Highway 327.

Houston Natural Gas Raises Rates 5 Percent for Silsbee Customers

Houston Natural Gas Co informed the City Council on January 27 that a 5 percent rate hike would take effect March 1. The increase follows a Texas Railroad Commission order raising the gas cost to the company from 28.7 to 33.7 cents per 100 cubic feet, with average residential bills up about 0.308 cents and industrial bills about 0.466 cents per 1000 cubic feet, excluding taxes and fees.

Thieves Keep Up Weekend Burglary Spree in Hardin County

Thieves hit five area businesses between Jan 22 and Jan 28 with the latest break in Kern Electrical Co on FM 92 north of Silsbee. The entry caused no door damage. thieves took a door dock and about 100 dollars worth of electrician tools. Other burglaries seized beer, cash, and about 1500 pounds of copper wire from Gulf States Utilities warehouse on South Third Street. Local council moves include taxicab ordinance revisions for higher insurance and leasing rules, with public necessity factors for permits.

Weekend thefts and club vandalism in Hardin County

Hardin County Sheriff Tom Easley said two thefts occurred over the weekend, including a Jan 26 incident at Universal Electric Co. north of Silsbee with three geese, oil, tools, and an electric generator taken. The Starlight Club near Kountze suffered burglary and vandalism with cash, machines, and beer stolen, and a customer tire and rim damaged. investigations continued as of Jan 27.

Volunteers Answer Three Fire Calls

Silsbee volunteers fought a January fire that destroyed Mrs. Lillie Bell Gore’s frame house. Firefighters also responded to two grass fires over the weekend and held a drill improving foam use and stream pump operation. Department enrollment rose to 29 members with new recruits.
