Silsbee volunteers fought weekend blazes with Fire Chief John Busby noting one house on FM 92 north of Silsbee, Eddie Warren’s, destroyed by undetermined origin about 12 10 a m Sunday April 5. Another home of Ivy Eason on FM 92 suffered fire damage to a couch floor and exterior wall. Grass fires occurred April 6 on Cook s Bluff Road and April 7 at the R T Walker car lot on Highway 327 west of Silsbee.

Fruitless search for dog linked to child attack
City officials have not located a brown and white beagle that bit a 2 year old boy in the Ernest Apartments area on Thursday. The mother, Mrs. John Ard, said Preston Ard was playing when the dog bit his left cheek and prepared to attack again. Neighbors had seen the dog previously. Police contact is 385-3714.

H L Lackey won the bid to build a 48 by 64 foot addition to the Silsbee Public Library at a cost of 18 253 with 120 working days. Other bids were Sherman Builders 25 767 Howard Lee McDonald 30 720 and Soudrain Home Improvement cost plus 15 percent for labor and 10 percent for materials. City officials will finalize contract terms at the April 14 meeting and library trustees will launch a fundraising drive to fund the expansion which will triple the library’s size.

Funeral services for Evan El more Hennington 54 of Loeb were held at Carroll-Wallace Funeral Home with Rev James Bradford and Rev Van Lowe officiating. Burial followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
