Designer of Military Projects Who Shaped Southeast Missouri
Mr and Mrs John D Rauch of Fort Wayne Indiana on a three week visit cite the dredge era that began in 1908 it shaped Southeast Missouri turning marshes into farm land. Rauch helped organize American Steel Dredge Co and designed barges for war use and a rubber tired dragline crane called Wayne Crane now mass produced. He also contributed to dredge projects for Little River and for the Irrawaddy and Brahmaputra rivers aiding WWII supply routes.

Burt H. Rowe of Sikeston received the Silver Beaver Award from the Southeast Missouri Area Council at its annual meeting in the Armory. Three other Scouters from the region Also were honored, including T. H. Winyard of Poplar Bluff. The ceremony drew nearly 200 attendees as officers were elected and Scout activity reports given. Rowe, a longtime Troop Committeeman and District Activities Chairman, is active in education Kiwanis Church work and Red Cross Disaster duties, with four sons in Scouts and Cub Scouts. the citation lauded his decade of service and leadership.

Cotton Ginning Hits Rapid Pace In Sikeston
Cotton gins in Sikeston have processed 2210 bales since the second week of September. The Sikeston Gin Co led with 1167 bales, Planters' Cotton Co 626, and E P Coleman Gin 437. Gins stay open late but not 24 hours, quality described as low due to rough picking. Prices in government loan ranged to .34 before rains, then .31 to .32. Movement of cotton expected to stay brisk.

Annual Meeting Highlights Scouting Leaders in Southeast Missouri
Nearly 200 Southeast Missouri Area Council attendees including Boy Scout leaders and wives gathered for the annual meeting. Silver Beaver Awards were presented to Burt H. Three Thousand Miners to Work Without Union in Lead Belt
The National Labor Relations Board ruled that three thousand miners at the St. Joseph Lead Company in Southeast Missouri will work without a union for at least one year. In a runoff supervised by the NLRB, 1,417 voted for no union and 975 for the CIO United Gas Coke and Chemical Workers. NLRB examiner John Burst said no union will be certified and another election cannot be held for a year.

Record Day for Receipts from City Parking Meters
Downtown Sikeston parking meters yielded a record $512 on Monday morning, with Police Chief Harold Walace and officers claiming the haul surpassed any previous total since installation last year. Floyd R. Hockersmith of East Prairie pleaded guilty in Sikeston Magistrate Court to careless and reckless driving. He was fined 25 dollars plus costs and sentenced to 60 days in the county jail after a chase at 75 mph. Oscar I. Ross was fined 80.20 dollars after pleading guilty to an overloaded truck charge near Tan ner Street on Highway 61. George H. Need for More School Buildings Urged By Chamber
