Propositions for Missouri Voters on November Ballot
Missouri voters will face at least five tickets on November 2 with Republicans Democrats Socialists Socialist Labor and Progressive party candidates. Some areas may show Communist and Prohibition names, but none certified yet. A nonpartisan Judicial ticket lists Supreme Court Justices Conklin and Clark for retention. A Constitutional Amendment ticket includes three proposed amendments Curry Road tax gas tax hike two to three cent sales tax for soldier bonus pension allowances for city workers, and a special district for a short term Congressman in the Tenth District.

Fire Roars Through New Madrid Businesses
A fire starting from an oil stove explosion at the Hummel drug store in New Madrid destroyed the two story brick building housing the drug store and the adjacent Jack's liquor store and tavern. Firefighters from New Madrid Lilbourn and Portageville battled the blaze as controls remained elusive and loss estimates were unavailable.

Huge Neon Sign Adorns Dunn Hotel Roof
A prominent neon sign tops the Dunn Hotel, visible up to about two miles away in clear weather. The word DUNN features 20 inch letters in 30 by 30 inch boxes, while HOTEL uses five foot letters in large encased boxes. The sign spans 19 feet, with cream letters on a Firestone blue background and 16 gauge galvanized material. Cape Neon Sign Company of Cape Girardeau installed it and also a similar Dunn Hotel sign in Poplar Bluff two weeks earlier.

Semo Busses Resume Operations Monday
Semo Busses will resume service Monday under the name Somo Coaches after being off the road since September 21. R. C. Dickason of Jonesboro Ark bought the franchise and property, gaining approval from the Missouri Public Service Commission to reopen with eight buses south of Cape Girardeau and one express bus from East Prainie to St Louis. Dickason, a 18-year bus industry veteran, will run the business from the Himmelberger Harrison building in Cape Girardeau and plans to move his family there.

Body of War Veteran Beahan to Arrive Tomorrow
Albritton funeral home received a telegram from Memphis Army depot stating that the body of Pfc. Pete B. Beahan will arrive tomorrow at 10 48 a.m. The soldier's body will be taken to the Albritton funeral chapel for funeral arrangements. Beahan was the son of Mrs. Kay G. Beahan of Columbus Kentucky, formerly of Sikeston.

Man Given 60 Days On Highway Obstruction Charge
A man was sentenced to 60 days in the county jail with the sentence stayed on payment of court costs for obstructing traffic on Highway 61 while intoxicated. Harris was taken into custody by a State Trooper last Friday.

Two Groceries Here Are Robbed of Cash
Robbers hit two Sikeston groceries on Monday night netting about 28 dollars. Putnam's Market on Greer street lost 3.80 from a cash register after a break in through a back door. Fair Grocery on Prosperity street saw the change, about 23 or 24 dollars, taken from an unlocked register accessed via a rear fan hole. Police Chief Harold Wallace investigated the incidents.
