Rain turned Blytheville Arkansas mud into an obstacle for nearly 200 pickers forcing the National Cotton Picking Contest to be postponed from last Friday to Thursday October 25. Secretary of Agriculture Clinton Anderson planned to award the $1000 prize and delivered his address as scheduled. Kemper Bruton of the National Cotton Council announced the postponement as thousands watched. Festivities continued with Andersons address and a fashion show headlined by Jennie Erle Cox as 1945 Maid of Cotton.
