Killed When Car Overturns Near Portageville
Miss Hyda Browning of Baderville was killed instantly when a 1940 Ford car driven by James Dubois of Malden left Highway 61 near Portageville and rolled over several times. Passenger Miss Lillie Smith suffered severe cuts and bruises, sailor James Condict of Portageville escaped injury, and Dubois was treated at Sikeston General Hospital for a hip injury.

Crews Reynolds a cotton ginner of Caruthersville and Vel W Lambkin president of Maryville State College were named to the board of trustees for Missouri s new teacher s retirement system. They join Roy Scantlin state superintendent of schools and two elected trustees Emma Gann of Springfield Ward E Barnes of Normandy. The pension plan starts July 1 1946. Continue Search For Liquor Thieves
City and State police are continuing an investigation into a Friday morning robbery at Ralph's Cut-Rate Liquor Store on Highway 60 west of Sikeston. Thieves stole 30 cases of liquor valued at $1500, plus $59 in cash and an automatic revolver, after breaking in through a rear door and loading the goods into a truck.

New ownership of Malone Drug Store at Malone avenue and North New Madrid street was announced this week. W B Malone Jr and Daniel Malone bought the business from their uncle Col C L Malone. The store, established in 1933, has been run by C L Malone for twelve years aside from a two year period with Barney Forrester. Bill Malone, a registered pharmacist, has over ten years in the drug trade and has been with the store six years. Dan Malone, a former Local Truck System and State highway department employee, served in WWII and recently returned from overseas with an ordnance outfit. he will keep his highway department job.
