Sikeston High School clinched the Southeast Missouri Conference championship by upsetting Caruthersville 7 to 0 in Charleston. Sunday School League Basketball Opens Season in Sikeston
Sikeston's Sunday School Basketball League begins its second season at the high school gymnasium with five teams: Church of God Methodist Christian Sikeston Baptist and Minor Baptist. Four teams play each Monday night with one idle. The schedule opens 7 30 p m Methodist versus Church of God and 8 16 p m Christian versus Miner Baptist. Knight games occur for all five teams February 25 followed by a league all star game a week after season ends.

Flu Epidemic Is Receding In Sikeston
Sikeston reports a severe cold spell with about half the population affected and up to 390 children absent at one point. Most illnesses are mild colds with few influenza cases. Nationally flu activity remains above five year norms, concentrated in six states including Texas, South Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, Indiana and Utah, with 5090 cases for the week ending Nov 21.

Gerow accepts full responsibility for Pearl Harbor failings
Gen Leonard T Gerow told the Pearl Harbor Committee in Washington he bore full responsibility for the War Department's failure to scrutinize Maj Gen Walter Short's preparations. He said Washington would have learned the commander in Hawaii was not following instructions and the fortress was unprepared for an attack. Cotton Ginnings Show Small Price Shifts In Sikeston Gins
Cotton prices moved little at three Sikeston gins this week with about 75 to 50 percent of cotton passing the scales. Seed sold at 10 dollars per ton and staple brought an average of 17 cents. Over 1500 bales have been ginned here as picked cotton remains scarce while farmers finish the season. Field workers snapping cotton earn 1 to 1.25 dollars per hundred.
