Mrs Atherton and husband Barnes Atherton were overcome by gas fumes in a Van Holm motel during the night of November 3. She died Monday at a Pecos hospital. he died Friday morning at the same hospital. The couple, former Sikeston residents, were en route to reestablish their home after a year in California. Funeral services were held at Washington Baptist Church in Cairo, with interment in the National Cemetery near Cairo. Surviving Sikeston relatives include a sister Pat Davis and a nephew J W Davis.
