At an Armistice Day ceremony the Distinguished Service Cross Bronze Star Medal and Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart were presented posthumously to Dr. Lawrence B. Adams for his son 2nd Lieut. Patrick H. Adams who died Dec 28 1944 after wounds from three battles in the European Theater of Operations. Major General Leif J Sverdrup presented the awards.

Hospital Fund Drive Nears Goal for $80,000 Target
The Missouri Delta Community Hospital fund drive nears completion with $63,540.15 raised toward an $80,000 goal and $16,459.85 still needed. Last week brought $6,625.40 in receipts, including $762.15 from Himmelberger & Harrison Lumber Co employees at Morehouse, amid an ongoing appeal by solicitors and church and community supporters.

Plant to Prosper Winners Selected in Scott County

Bond set at 500 dollars. Clarence Benson of Cape Girardeau fined 25 dollars and jailed 60 days after pleading guilty to careless and reckless driving while intoxicated. arrest by Police Chief Harold Wallace on North Scott Street. Life in prison pronounced by Circuit Judge Phil Cool for Norman Lee Blodgett 18, inmate of Missouri State School for Boys, who pleaded guilty to killing Deputy Sheriff J O Freeman and wounding another May 23 at the Missouri State School for Boys.

Cairo Celebrating Bridge Toll Lifting
Thousands in Cairo and surrounding areas celebrate toll removal on the Ohio River bridge linking Cairo to Wickliffe. The 1.25 mile structure, part of Highways 51 60 and 62, cost 3.115 million dollars and is now public property after ten years of fund-raising. District Association Elects New Officers to Succeed Local Men
Walter Bernard of Caruthersville was elected to succeed Clarence C. Scott of Sikeston as president of the Southeast Missouri Association of Insurance Agents at a dinner meeting in Poplar Bluff last night. James V. Corrigan of Poplar Bluff was chosen as vice president and Iverson Miche of Caruthersville as secretary treasurer, succeeding Jos A. Leslie of Sikeston. There were 52 attendees at Sacred Hearts school. Principal speaker was Henry Vogt of National Surety Co. John J. O'Toole of St. Louis, state president of the Missouri Association of Insurance Agents, also attended. The district association meets quarterly with annual officer elections.

Open House Observed At Local Public Schools
National Education Week activities featured Open House at Sikeston public schools. Lincoln School for Negroes opened at 7 30 this evening, with a high school program in the gym including Marilyn Yoffie, the Girls Glee Club led by Keith Collins, and a one act play "'Pop Quiz" directed by Robert Walker. Armistice Day observance followed, then visitors could tour the high school, home economics cottage, and each teacher’s room, with refreshments and homeroom voting for books as prizes.
