FPC Approves Gas For Southeast Missouri Sikeston
Mayor M L Carroll said the Federal Power Commission approved Associated Natural Gas Co for gas allotments to Southeast Missouri and Sikeston. The action also supports Eastern Texas Transmission Co to raise line capacity by 75 million cubic feet daily to 508 million. Missouri PSC had earlier issued a certificate of convenience and necessity for 2.646 million dollars for distribution and transmission systems serving the region. Twelve district towns including Sikeston have voted to grant Associated an operating franchise.

Shooting Fatal to Portageville Negro in Night Bar Shooting
James Scott a Portageville Negro was shot at the rear of Bar 61 near Portageville around midnight and died at Sikeston General Hospital at 1 45 a m Coroner Orville Taylor announced. Beulah a Negro woman from Benton Harbor Mich was named as the shooter and apparently fled. an inquest was to be conducted by New Madrid county police.
