Monument to Union Soldiers at Springfield Unveiled in 1869

Bailey's will at $5000, the project followed efforts by Greene County and Springfield Union supporters after the Civil War to honor fallen soldiers from the Battle of Wilson's Creek and other actions. The federal government later assumed cemetery maintenance, with initial costs and expansions noted, including a Confederate cemetery gateway joining the grounds in 1911.
