Holiday Drivers Warned by Patrol
Colonel Hugh H. Waggoner of the Missouri State Highway Patrol issued a stern warning against careless and reckless driving. He noted a rise in fatal accidents over the last two months and ordered patrol arrest of anyone driving at unsafe speeds or breaking driving rules. Patrol will be on duty during Memorial Day to prevent repeats of last year’s tragedies, when 137 accidents caused 6 deaths and 133 injuries.

Final Preparations For Mobile X Ray
Final preparations for the X ray mobile unit to visit Scott county early next month will be made at Benton Tuesday night when the Scott County Health Advisory Council meets to perfect operating plans. 15 community chairmen and their local workers will attend. Mrs Morrell De Reign of Caruthersville, president of the State Tuberculosis Association, will be guest speaker. Jos Leslie, president of the Scott County Tuberculosis Association, and W Kenneth Grubb of the Health Department have prepared a program to be broadcast over KEFVS tomorrow at 2 p m to inform residents of the scheduled Xray survey. The survey is financed by the Missouri Division of Health and the Scott County Christmas Seal organization, offering the service free of charge. The survey aims to find early cases of tuberculosis, offering the best chance of cure.

A special election Tuesday June 1 will ask voters to approve a two mill tax to fund maintenance of parks cemeteries and parkways. Public Playgrounds Opened Yesterday in Sikeston
Sikeston opened three public playgrounds yesterday under the Junior Chamber of Commerce and civic groups. Edward L Allard Jr is general chairman of the playgrounds committee. Playgrounds are at South Grade Bailey and the Negro public schools with Dean Owen and Miss Mary Francis Smith in charge at South Grade and Bailey. Volunteer workers assist at the Negro school. Supervised play runs 8:30 to 11:30 each weekday, excluding Saturdays Sundays.
