Two War Dead to National Cemeteries from Sikeston
Among 24 Southeast Missouri war dead arriving in San Francisco aboard the U.S. Army Transport Lieutenant George W. G. Boyce are Coxwain Leonard Burgess, son of A. L. Burgess near Sikeston, and Second Lieutenant Joseph W. Peace, husband of Mrs. Mary Helen Peace of Sikeston. Burgess will be shipped to the American Graves Registration Distribution Center in Kansas City then to Fayetteville National Cemetery in Arkansas for burial. Peace will be sent to Arlington, Virginia for burial.

Frozen Food Demonstration At Sikeston Public Library
Miss Flora Carl extension nutritionist from University of Missouri Columbia led a frozen foods demonstration at Sikeston Public Library yesterday. She urged using home grown foods and wrapping properly for preservation, noting 90 percent of meats 30 percent vegetables and 25 percent fruits should be frozen. She explained handling meat to keep quality, advised washing chicken with soap or soda rather than water, and described wrapping with heavily waxed cartons or paper. Demonstrated foods included strawberries rhubarb and chicken with samples of cake fruit bread and three kinds of frozen sandwiches.

Funeral Friday for Sergeant Hodges
The remains of Sgt Harold L Hodges of Sikeston arrived from India where he died of scarlet fever in December 1943 while serving with the Army Air Corps. He entered service October 13 1942 trained in Albuquerque before deployment to India. He was formerly a chef at Joe Ryans Cafe now Lambert’s Cafe. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 30 pm at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel with Rev J W Hoffert officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery with full military rites at the graveside. He is survived by his father William Hodges of Gary Indiana two brothers Herbert Hodges of Gary and James E Hodges of Sikeston and his grandmother Mrs Fessie Ridge of Sikeston. Guests of Mr and Mrs Thos Holder this past week included Mr and Mrs Kermit Byrd and daughter of New Madrid and Mr and Mrs Harold Fink of Anna Illinois.
