James Butler To Teach Music In Local Schools

Sikeston announces James E. Butler hired to lead the music department. Butler, a Sikeston native and Navy veteran, will direct the boys glee club and work in elementary schools continuing the string program. he holds a B S from Southeast MO State College and will study at Columbia Teachers College this summer.

Kathryne Clark to Attend Music Seminar in London

Miss Kathryne Clark of 201 North Stoddard, a noted music teacher, was chosen to attend a seminar at the Royal Academy of Music in London starting June 19. She sails from Quebec June 11 aboard the RMS Franconia and will travel via Holland, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, and France before returning by late July.

Sikeston Clean-Up Campaign Totals 11 710 Jobs Reported

The Sikeston Chamber of Commerce announced 11 710 cleaning painting and repair jobs completed during the Clean Up Paint Up Fix Up drive. Airport School led with 5 015 jobs, followed by South Grade 4 562 and Bailey 759. Remaining schools and rooms posted notable efforts, with several students earning per pupil awards.

Local Elevator Sold Ahead of Summer Reopening

The Southeast Missouri Elevator Company sells its McMullin elevator to C. D. Springs. Joe Cravens and Roland Malcolm will run it starting June 1, with around the clock operation during peak season and new unloading gear. FE. M. Allen and L. M. Chief Warns Sikeston Speeders Ahead of Warm Weather

Sikeston motorists were warned by Chief Harold Wallace that orders have gone out to all officers to crack down on speeders. He cited dangers from increased traffic and schoolchildren, urging cooperation while noting a few stubborn drivers need convincing.

103 Graduates To Receive Diplomas Here

Dr H Pat Wardlaw of Jefferson City Missouri will address Sikeston high school graduates in ceremonies May 22 at 8 00 p m in the high school auditorium One hundred four seniors will receive diplomas from Board President L M Standley The address titled America is Everybody s Business will be followed by awards and honors including valedictorian and salutatorian The program includes invocations by Rev M G Joyce musical numbers by the mixed chorus senior girls ensemble and girls trio Superintendent Lynn Twitty will introduce the speaker with Principal Noah E Gray presenting the class The high school band will provide processional and recessional music

Revival Meet at Church of Nazarenes Morehouse

A revival meet at the Church of the Nazarene in Morehouse runs from Sunday June 1 through June 15 with Rev William Pyrtle evangelist from Flat River Missouri as speaker. Special singing each evening by Rev and Mrs William Pyrtle. The church and pastor Mrs Laverta Seal invite everyone to attend.
