Sikeston Parade Draws About 3000 School Children
A Friday parade in Sikeston drew nearly 3000 students from local schools. The march began at Malone Park and moved along Scott street to Front street, then Kingshighway to Center street and back. The high school band led, with Police Chief Harold Wallace escorting. Afterward, preschoolers from Airport, South Grade, Bailey, Airport, Lincoln and the high school rode buses to the park.

Sikeston School Board fills positions with eight new teachers
The Sikeston Public Schools Board of Education at its monthly meeting employed eight first year teachers including Elizabeth Haley Kirkwood high school art supervisor and Mary Ann Sapp Kennett Junior High science. Other hires include Fred Bowman Evelyn Sewing Maude Montgomery Katharine Lohr Wilma Faucett and Hattie Hughes for Lincoln school. The board noted vacancies remain for journalism English Spanish English and mathematics. A Lincoln P T A Sunset Chamber delegation discussed school issues with the board.

Lindenwood College selects dormitory president and yearbook manager
Phyllis Laux, a Lindenwood junior from Sikeston, was elected president of Irwin Hall for the next year by students choosing rooms there. 10th District GOP Delegates Back Taft at Cape Girardeau
Delegates C. A. Powell of Dexter and Rex Henson of Poplar Bluff were elected at the 10th District GOP conclave and, though uninstructed, had previously declared support for Taft. Captain O L Wallis of Troop E reported Southeast Missouri saw 119 highway accidents in April with 16 killed and 92 injured. Property damage reached 49700.00. Nine of the deceased were passengers, one pedestrian, and six drivers. New Madrid and Scott counties led fatalities with four each. Mississippi had no fatal accidents. New Madrid headed accidents investigated at 22, followed by Stoddard with 14, Scott seven, Mississippi one.

Negro Man Bruised In Train Car Crash Near Sunset Addition
Willie Lamarr, 48, a Sikeston Negro, escaped serious injury when his car was struck by a Missouri Pacific engine just west of the Frisco crossing. He was hospitalized in shock with bruises after failing to see the train while crossing from Highway 60 into Sunset addition. his 1939 automobile was badly damaged.

New Madrid voters approved a 869,000 school bond in a special election last Thursday by 139 to 0. Funds will build a four-room Negro elementary school to replace the old O Bannon structure and add a combined auditorium lunchroom at the white elementary school, plus two new classrooms including a kindergarten.
