Lightning Fires Cabin On South Kings Highway
A bolt during a Monday night storm struck and destroyed a small cabin behind Ray S. Taylor’s residence on South Kings highway. The fire spread quickly despite heavy rain but was halted before reaching adjacent structures. No other damage was reported in what was one of the season’s most severe storms.

The Frisco tower thermometer recorded 42 degrees this morning, the coolest in weeks. The week’s high reached 91 on Saturday May 9, with a seven day range near 50 degrees. Fire department was called out twice Saturday night around 10 o clock to car and residence fires. In the car owned by Paul Rankin a cigarette left burning may have started the blaze, which destroyed the back seat. The W O Scott residence roof caught fire from kitchen sparks Friday, but quick department action controlled the flames.

Henry Alexander a 60 year old African American plantation worker on the Boler farm 20 miles south of Charleston was found shot to death in his cabin Wednesday a shotgun nearby. His son Purvis aged 25 was arrested and jailed in Charleston pending full investigation of the death.
