Also hospitalized were Aaron Edward Parker and Jessie Parker in fair condition. Rita Mae Parker and James Barney treated and dismissed. A separate early Sunday collision near Highway 61 injured Paul Rodgers and Earline Martin. Rodgers a sailor and Martin a New Madrid resident, both treated and dismissed. Additional minor injuries included Virginia Newman, Stanley McMackin, C O Bryce, and Ann McAmis treated and released.
Barbara Laura Jackson 18, daughter of Mrs Exie McDonald and sophomore at New Madrid High, died in Sikeston hospital after a Sunday night crash when her car returning from Portageville with Theodore Roberts collided with another vehicle that fled the scene. Funeral held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the high school auditorium.
Jefferson City Gov Phil Donnelly reappoints E L McClintock of Cape Girardeau to the Missouri Public Service Commission and names Doug las D McDonald of Jefferson City to replace Henry McKay Cary of Carrollton whose term expired McDonald is a Republican and McClintock a Democrat who has served since Donnelly's first term
Heavy rains hollowed a section of Helen Avenue at the edge of Highway 61 creating a large roadway gap. W C Edwards owner Sikeston Monument Works had just crossed the spot moments before the cave in.
Funeral services were held for Robert H. Mow 43 in Centralia Methodist Church. He died Saturday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Burial was in Centralia Cemetery. Mow born November 27 1911 in Indiana moved to Sikeston as a child and later attended Westminster College Fulton and Harvard Business School. He worked for A B Chance Company rising to assistant to the VP and GM and served on Centralia park board Rotary and city council. He is survived by his wife Anne three children his mother and a sister.
State health officials and county court members discuss the Salk vaccine program and possible quarantine measures for rabies. Dr Beckthorpe and Dr H Wo Young visit Jefferson City then Kennett for meetings, with a statewide health order anticipated at Benton County Court.
The Board of Education of R 6 District plans to annex the Dunaver and Bement areas, approved at a regular session in the high school cafeteria. Enrollment rises by about 100. some classes may move to Bailey School. Twenty or more new teachers were approved for next year, with placements across elementary and high school subjects, and final bids for Matthews School to be ready by June.
Attendance at Sikeston Sunday schools shows First Methodist Church at 538, Church of the Nazarene 382, First Assembly of God 472, Second General Baptist 183, First Presbyterian 538, and Turner Street Church of God 243. Other entries list 195 first and 357 at Turner Street Church.

Louis Stone, field representative from the Cape Girardeau Office of the Social Security Administration, will be at City Hall this Friday from 1 to 3 pm to assist residents with social security matters.
The Cape Girardeau District Methodist Youth Fellowship held its May meeting at Sikeston Methodist Church for officer elections and installations. Rev. Robert Bugenheimer led the candlelight service installing officers from Sikeston and other towns, with plans to attend the National Convocation at Purdue University in August.

Dr Rosner, Dr Young, and Dr Buckthorpe urge swift action with county court cooperation to halt spread to Scott and neighboring areas. Officials cite rising rabies in dogs and other animals and warn stray animals threaten quarantine effectiveness. County judges express willingness to cooperate if shown necessary for public protection.
Sikeston Public Schools retain the states top triple-A rating under a system dating to 1950. The district excelled on most standards though elementary and high school sections showed some unsatisfactory marks in teacher load, curriculum, and certain special standards. The rating followed an inspection by Carleton Fulbright and a letter to Roger Bailey.
Sikeston Lodge No. 358 honors Robert H. Sizemore with a gold 50 year pin for his half century in Odd Fellowship. He joined Green River Lodge 534 in Hopkinsville in 1905, later transferring to Herrin Lodge and finally to Sikeston. He has held all lodge offices and remains active across Odd Fellows groups. his wife also serves in Rebekah and Auxiliary roles.
