Consider Your Car From Memphis Commercial Appeal
In wartime, the private automobile becomes part of a national system and must be cared for and used carefully. With gas rationing, tire shortages, and parts scarcity, vehicle maintenance and safe driving are essential. About 25 million passenger cars exist now versus 30 million at Pearl Harbor, with 6,000 junked daily and 18 months to rebuild production. New cars will cost roughly 30 percent more when production resumes, and rationing will prioritize essential driving.
