Meats Freed From Rationing Amid War Strain
The Office of Price Administration freed all meats except beef steaks and roasts from rationing today. Pork veal lamb and mutton cuts, beef varieties other than steaks and roasts, hamburgers and other listed items lose ration points. Red points per month drop from 60 to 30 effective Sunday, with stamps R8, S8 and TS next Sunday. after that no red stamps until June 3. Farm state senators urge restoring heavy hogs price support.

Sikeston Hosts Large Rabbit Show With 200 Rabbits Exhibited
About 2 500 visitors attended the Kiam Rabbit and Davy Breed ers Association spring show in Sikeston last weekend. Over 200 rabbits in 15 varieties were on display, including New Zealand white and red, Chinchilla, Flemish Giant, and Havana breeds. Prizes went to shooters from Illinois Missouri and Arkansas with awards for senior red buck, junior does, and heavyweight chinchillas. The event drew exhibitors from Missouri Arkansas Kentucky and Illinois and the association was invited to Cape Girardeau and Caruthersville fairs this fall.

Two City Jobs For Police Chief
Sikeston city council authorized Harold Wallace to serve as assistant chief of the fire department at $125 monthly. Mayor Presnell appointed Wallace, with council ratification. An ordinance allowed the mayor with council consent to appoint the fire chief’s assistant who would be paid. The meeting also addressed trash concerns, sewer bids, street tile work, redecorating a fireman’s apartment, hiring Clinton Hall as Sunset Addition policeman, deputy constable appointments, a plant compliance request, and malaria control cooperation. The police report noted 11 arrests in April with $79 in fines. six fires caused $103 in fireman dues.

Choked to Death On Grain of Corn
Virginia Sue Goode three year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goode of near Kewanee choked to death Monday after swallowing a grain of corn. She died before arrival at New Madrid where medical aid was sought. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church in Kewanee with Rev. Carl Gunn in charge. Burial followed in the nearby cemetery with Albritton service. Surviving are the parents five sisters Lillian Evelyn Faye Ruby and Willie May two brothers Leon and Fred Paul and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. A. J. McCoy of Doniphan and Mrs. Ada Goode of Marston.
