Five Seriously Injured in Hwy 61 Head-On Crash
A noon Monday head on collision about three miles north of Sikeston on Highway 61 left five people seriously injured. George Dawson 18 of New Madrid drove a 1950 Ford convertible into Louis Blumberg 62 of St. Louis. Injured were taken to Delta Community Hospital. Blumberg and wife were later moved to St. Louis Hospital. Dawson was released next day. Paul Newsome 17 and John Lewis 20, both of New Madrid, also injured and later moved to Memphis.

State Highway Department Counts Traffic in Sikeston
The Missouri Highway Department completed a traffic count on Sikeston streets using mechanical recorders at about 185 locations. A traffic flow map will be created for Sikeston and other sample cities to study vehicle travel and possible links to population. Edward McCoy, 14, of East Prairie, died last Saturday. funeral services were held Monday at Dogwood cemetery.

Eugene C. Heath of Sikeston Rural Route 3 died March 26 in a Japanese hospital from injuries in a car-train crash while serving with the Army Occupation Forces. Born September 28, 1931 in New Madrid County, he lived in New Madrid and Scott counties. He leaves parents Mr. and Mrs. William D. Heath and six siblings. Funeral plans will be set after the body returns to the United States.

DDT Spraying Planned for Scott County Homes on April Tenth
The Scott County Health Center announces DDT spraying will begin April 10 under public health engineer Fred Winters. Three crews will operate first in Sikeston area with a 5 percent DDT solution priced at 1.50 per house and outside toilet. The program urges every home to participate and advises proper garbage disposal fly control and fly-tight privies to curb fly breeding.
