Red Cross Seeks Aid for Flood Victims
Rev. E. H. Orear, Scott County Red Cross chairman, says several contributions have been made to a $135 fund for flood victims in the eastern nation. About 338,000 people in 11 states need shelter, food, and clothing. a minimum of $3,000,000 may be required. Orear will mail 1000 letters urging county residents to contribute. The Red Cross aims to care for the entire flood district and needs funds promptly.

Wm. F. Woehlecke of Sikeston marks the start of his twenty-third year in greenhouse work this Wednesday. He began in Indianapolis and later worked in Chicago and Pittsburgh before settling in Sikeston seven years ago to establish the Sikeston Greenhouse. He has supplied local flower needs and now prepares Easter lilies using 200 watt electric lights to force bloom for the holiday.

Thieves Break Into Canoy School on Highway 61
The Canoy school in the Matthews district was burglarized last night. Thieves failed to open the safe and scattered desk contents while causing property disturbance. A fire was started in the store with burned papers found indoors. Window guards were removed to enter. Superintendent J W Huckstep says investigators from the State Patrol and school authorities are pursuing leads. Teacher at the school is Mrs Willa Deane Alsup.

County Agent Broom reports 3331 second rental and parity payment checks totaling 118322.69 dollars have arrived in New Madrid. Most receipts occurred in the first shipment. 258 second rental checks were in the first shipment and 1626 await arrival. Distribution from multiple points will continue until the bulk is delivered. Farmers say the timing is opportune for cash needed to carry on farming operations.

River rising slowly at New Madrid today
Reports from New Madrid at noon state the Mississippi River is rising and reached 32 feet this morning. A rise to 37 feet is forecast for the first of the week, with no danger expected as 44 feet can be managed. Water overflows into lowlands east of town. Flood waters from the Ohio are expected to push the Mississippi at Cairo six feet above flood stage, with levee protection limiting damage.

Scott county circuit court found J. Frank Proffer not in full possession of his faculties when he drew his will. The jury recommended setting aside the will. Proffer died August 1 1935 at 78. Daughter Alan Proffer filed suit against sister Mrs Eugie Freeman and brother Luther Proffer. A farm of 127 acres was bequeathed to a son, a house and lot in Burfordville to Mrs Freeman, and a two acre lot to Miss Proffer. Change of venue from Cape Girardeau county.

A dust cloud from Kansas and the southwest coated Sikeston and surrounding areas on Tuesday, obscuring the sun after a night of storms.
