Several thousand Mississippi county floodway residents displaced by the Ohio and Mississippi rivers last January are nearly all back home. Only four families lack housing or have moved to new homes while a few sharecropper families have been released from farms. Red Cross relief efforts connected most evacuees with jobs, with transport aid provided to heads of households. One remaining family in the county lacks a home due to owners no longer requiring their labor amid reduced cotton allotments.

Week End Thieves Target Two Local Firms
Burglars broke into the Kelly Brothers building last Sunday night and stole a 1950 Nash Statesman, a spotlight, Kleenex dispenser and gas cap valued at about 2100. Entry was gained by breaking a rear window. Nailing Truck and Tractor Company suffered a Saturday night break in with a pried open safe and about 300 dollars stolen. checks and papers remained. Both firms had previous break ins last September with smaller losses.

Texas Eastern Transmission Corporation has won a contract with Algonquin Gas Transmission for delivering up to 250 million cubic feet of natural gas daily for resale to New England utilities. The two firms seek FPC approval to build facilities, with hearings planned in coming months and possible start of construction by year end for winter 1951 52.

Walton suffers partial stroke at home on Maplewood Drive
Herb Walton sustained a para lytic stroke this morning affecting his right arm and leg and causing speech difficulty. Mrs Walton said he fell while dressing in the bathroom at about 7 am, neighbors moved him to bed and he later showed some improvement. The attending physician noted an interior hemorrhage. Walton is a partner in Walton & Williams Motor and Tractor Companies, Ford car and farm implement dealers.

February 1950 Traffic Accidents Rise Across 14 Missouri Counties
February 1950 saw 90 accidents in 14 counties under Troop E with nine killed and 81 injured, versus 66 accidents, three deaths, and 56 injuries in February 1949. Property damage totaled 53,015 dollars, about 24,064 higher than last year. Six District Deaths in Traffic Accidents
Six deaths occurred in Southeast Missouri traffic crashes over the past week. Four killed near Poplar Bluff when a auto truck collision on Highway 67 left Eugene Rigdon and three others dead. Delter Reed of Oklahoma City injured. A 46 year old farmer John Burgess died in a truck rollover on Highway 25 near Cardwell, with Chalmer Burgess and Bob Ward injured. Kenneth Johnson, 13, died after being struck on Highway 61 south of Cape Girardeau. Margaret Dunn, 45, of St. Louis, driving, involved. Wm H Houck, 59, of Fornfelt seriously injured when struck by Bill Davidson’s car near Cape Girardeau.

Corn Acreage Allotments for Scott County Announced
Scott county receives 49890 acres of corn allotment for 1950 announced by Evin Burke, chairman of the Scott County Production and Marketing Association. The state total runs to 3295471 acres across Missouri 77 commercial corn counties. Allotment figures determine eligibility for corn price supports at 90 percent parity within the commercial area. outside, supports stand at 67.5 percent parity. An allotment mailing to farmers is set for Monday March 20.

Next Wednesday high school guidance sessions will feature Dr. Curtis S. Wilson, dean of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy at Rolla, and Rev. Charles A McBowen of Springfield.
