Workmen of the Municipal Light Plant started placing cables for traffic signal lights at several business district intersections. Celebrated 49th Wedding Anniversary of Rev and Mrs Jones
Rev and Mrs Finis EB Jones marked their forty ninth wedding anniversary with family at their Murray Lane home. They wed in Litchfield Illinois on March 6 1889 and moved to Sikeston forty one years ago. Equipment is being assembled at Morehouse by Southeast Missouri Telephone Company to install automatic dial telephones. The work will be completed next week and will extend to all rural lines served from Morehouse. After installation the two operators at Morehouse will no longer be needed.

Mrs Bach Hurt by Truck at Malone Avenue Crossing
Mrs H A Bach received painful bruises and scratches after being struck by a truck while attempting to cross near the intersection of Malone Avenue and North Ranney Street Wednesday afternoon. The accident occurred as she tried to cross the street near her home.

New Housing Plans Expected in Sikeston
John A. Young, chairman of the Sikeston better housing program, says the State FHA supervisor will visit Sikeston soon to outline plans for a new program. Loans up to 2500 may fund homes with 10 year repayments if used for a house, five years for other structures, with security via mortgage or deed of trust.

Sikeston Boy Sustained Broken Leg Monday
Buddy Goddard five year old grandson of Mrs Ophelia Bishop sustained a fractured leg and other minor injuries when struck by an automobile driven by Mrs Woodrow Brashears on Greer avenue near Tanner Cove. He was taken to St Francis Hospital Cape Girardeau where the leg was set and placed in a cast. The driver was not blamed for the accident and the child’s condition was reported satisfactory.

Hayti Youth Killed In Highway 61 Accident
Wm. H. Metzger a 17 year old Hayti youth died Tuesday at St. Francis Hospital Cape Girardeau from injuries after his car overturned on Highway 61 north of Portageville Sunday night. He and three companions were in the car. he dozed and the vehicle left the road. He died after a post mortem revealed a blood clot. Funeral at Dry Bayou church with burial there. His death brings Southeast Missouri traffic fatalities to 15 since January 1.

The March term of Scott county circuit court opens in Benton on Monday March 14 with 206 cases including 61 against County Collector C E Felker 7 against Former County Clerk J Shenwood Smith and 28 divorces. The criminal docket includes about 35 defendants though no murder cases and a lingering indictment against Smith for misappropriation of funds to Sikeston. A parole revocation request and venue changes figure in Smith cases along with suits by School District No 51 and other embezzlement charges. Felker faces 60 indictments for speculating in county warrants and a civil case by Maryland Casualty Company seeks commissions. A civil suit for $10 009 damages over Willard Rosss death is filed by his heirs. Levi Bailey and Herbert Welter face trial on rape and attempted rape charges respectively while Ben Ward of Sikeston faces operating a vehicle while intoxicated after curb jumping and a collision with a Frisco train. Forty Seven Acre Golf Course Started
Work began last Friday on plotting Sikeston's new forty seven acre golf course in the recreational park east of town. About 20 Works Progress Administration workers dig a smooth field and rough, set tees and greens for a nine hole layout with two bridges over the drainage ditch. Foreman Walker Taxlor directs the WPA crew and golf club grounds committee member George W. Kirk supervises hole placement. No start date for a clubhouse or formal play was announced. Grass planting and completion are planned as work allows.

A large quilt and antique exhibit at Hotel Marshal features 56 handmade works including a 1819 white cotton coverlet, a Civil War era wool quilt, and rare needlework.
