Farmers report wheat silage yields about 12 tons per acre worth around $120, offering higher protein than corn silage. It escapes drought damage, can replace corn silage to avoid allotment restrictions, and allows strategic crop sequencing. University of Missouri notes ongoing comparisons with Lucangrass and drought corn. Oat silage for steers shows higher profit than oat grain, up to $60 per ton.
