Area Has No Traffic Deaths For Weekend
Southeast Missouri reported no traffic fatalities over the long weekend per State Highway Patrol data. 28 accidents were recorded in 14 counties, with 18 injuries and no fatalities, contrasted with 1954 Fourth of July figures. Caruthersville drowning victim was 16 year old Tames Sides, son of Mr and Mrs W Sides. The drowning occurred about 2:30 PM Sunday in the Mississippi River, six miles south of Caruthersville, while swimming with Elmer Warettes. Vira Bennett and McKinley Nindhall, both of Caruthersville, were involved in the incident. the youth reportedly drifted 30 feet from shore and drowned. The body was recovered 11 hours later by Frank Dudley and Charlie Parne. In other notes, incidents and injuries were also mentioned.
