Good Appearance in Roof Essential

The roof and other exterior parts affect appearance and durability. Shingle roofs are common and economical, with color harmony key to integration with the house. Tile suits Spanish or Mediterranean styles, slate is durable but costly and may look top heavy on frame cottages. The ideal roof is permanent, protective, beautiful, and architecturally suited to the house.

Trend Toward Large Windows Noted in Homes

FHA officials note a shift in home design with large window areas becoming standard. Advances in double glass weatherstripping and joinery reduce heat loss, making expansive windows common rather than a liability in modern houses.
