Energetic youths and residents from Sikeston and Southeast Missouri flocked to Sikeston’s Legion Hut and the Missouri Employment Office seeking work on the Army Air Corps school buildings and hangars. Over 1000 applicants visited in two days, about 500 for common labor and 200 for skilled positions. Accident on Salcedo Road near Sikeston hurts none
A Model T Ford coupe and an International pickup collided on Salcedo road near Sikeston in the early hours of Sunday. Driver Woodrow Wilson of Route 2 Sikeston and Everett Harbinson of the pickup were uninjured. Don Wilson, a passenger, was not seriously hurt. The crash occurred at 1:15 a.m. All three men reside on Route 2 in Sikeston.

Mexicans Depart From Local Cotton Fields
Ample workers remain available to pick cotton this week after more than 100 Mexican laborers left for the Southwest. Trailback plantation manager S. W. Barton said the Mexicans had been used on New Madrid county lands for two years and were dismissed as home labor was guaranteed. About 500 to 600 workers were employed, with two more pickings expected. the crop looks good despite anticipated fall shortages.

Auxiliary Field For Air School In Scott County Missouri
The first auxiliary field for the Army air school near Sikeston was located this week south of Kluge's Hill, eight miles north of Sikeston. Oliver L. Parks, school head, flew in and left for Jackson, Mississippi. The 140-acre pasture land near Highway 61 will be rented for a year with annual renewals, usable from July 1. The field will support additional cadet classes as enrollment grows, with two new auxiliary fields planned for full operation. Lieut. Robt. Burnham and Sgt. Pasquale inspected the field, while D. E. Fletcher of Arcadia and parks interests approved it. Parks expected to arrive again today.

Sikeston will run a daily bus service for about 30 pupils from Salcedo Tanner and Miner to the Sikeston schools. The round trip covers roughly 25 miles and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes. The route was approved by high school inspector H B Masterson after a petition from the three communities.
