Sikeston Council Approves City Limits Expansion
The Sikeston City Council unanimously approved an ordinance to expand city boundaries. A special vote on July 12 will decide the new limits, which extend the city to include areas east of Salcedo Road, Memorial Park, the airport southern area, and properties owned by Hux and Matthews, with the line following City Route 61, the compress road, and the county line to the New Madrid border.

Alleged Check Artist Appears In Court This Afternoon
Thomas C. Hodge was arrested after noon by Chief Harold Wallace on multiple bad checks. The checks totaling various small sums were drawn on St Louis banks and passed to Sikeston shops. Hodge waived a preliminary hearing and was sent to Benton for circuit court. Weekend guests include Marcia Williams and Martha Ann Estes attending the Poplar Bluff horseshow.

Sikeston Men to Help Watch Truman at Reunion
About thirty eight Sikeston National Guardsmen of the 140th Infantry Regiment were chosen for the presidential honor guard at the 35th Division reunion in Little Rock Arkansas. The full 140th unit will total 190 guardsmen. They will travel Friday morning by convoy to Camp Robinson and join officers including Lieut Colonel Wickham Captain Cravens and Major Engle. Truman will speak for 15 to 20 minutes Saturday afternoon.

Sikeston merchants plan a monthly Bargain Days program beginning with the weekend of June 23 25. Nathan Yoffie says all merchants will participate offering special values to draw trade to Sikeston. Reorganization Plan For Scott County's Schools Approved
The Missouri State Board of Education approved the Scott county plan to reorganize public schools into six high school districts by consolidating with neighboring rural districts. Final adoption requires a countywide vote. Other counties with approved plans include Adair Buchanan Camden and more. 33 counties approved, 11 denied. Highway 60 Bridges East of Sikeston Widened Soon
The Missouri Highway Department will widen two narrow bridges east of Sikeston on Highway 60, crossing St. John's ditch and the North Cut drainage ditch. Bids for 45 road projects across 15 counties total 103.3 miles at an estimated $3.6 million, to be opened June 24 by the State Highway Commission in Jefferson City.

Abandoned baby to be placed with Sikeston couple
A baby boy about 8 to 10 days old found in a parked car in Sikeston near Kroger on Malone Avenue will be placed in the temporary care of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Stout at 323 East Kathleen. After hospital care, adoption will require about a year of investigations under Circuit Judge R. B. Oliver III. Chief Harold Wallace noted many adoption inquiries.

Contract Awarded For Rehabilitation Of School Buildings
The SEMO Construction Company won a $34,000 contract to remodel six Sikeston airport buildings for public school use starting next September. Midland Engineering Company received a $2,300 plumbing contract, subject to damage extent from prior freezing.
