Weather: Heat Wave to Continue with 100-Degree Weekend
Meteorologist Albert Klamm of the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics warned no relief from the hot spell is in sight. He expects temperatures to reach or exceed 100 degrees over the weekend after a week high of 96 on Tuesday and a low of 58 on Sunday. The current reading is 66 degrees.

Herbert Lathom, a 32 year old Matthews farmer, was injured Tuesday night when he was thrown from a small truck on Highway 60 three miles west of Sikeston. Neck Broken While Diving In Missouri River Diversion Channel
Samuel Gray, 20, of Morehouse, was critically injured Sunday afternoon when he dived from a bridge into the diversion channel near Morehouse. Doctors report a fractured second cervical vertebrae and dislocated fourth vertebrae causing paralysis from the shoulders down. He was taken to City Hospital, St Louis, via Ellison ambulance. his mother Mrs Lula Gray remains at his side.

Chronic curb sitters move to American Legion Square
Sikeston residents at New Madrid and Front streets shifted this morning to the center of American Legion Square to supervise an aluminum collection. About 25 to 30 curb sitters, longtime town fixtures, are not all present. Boy Scouts will assist with the collection preps while talks on war, religion, crops, and weather continue. Four Sikeston residents were injured last Friday night in a car crash near Cairo Newfoundland. Charles H. Moose supervisor of Sikeston Municipal Light and Power Plant sustained deep cuts and bruises. Dr Tom Chidester Leroy Heisserer pharmacist and Mary Lou Wright Farm Security employee were also hurt. Wright fractured jaw and other injuries. Moose and Heisserer at Pete Medley home. Chidester at his home. The car, a Buick club car bought three weeks earlier, crashed into a parked unlit vehicle after a southbound car blinded the driver. the car was destroyed.

Lillie Browning known as Lillie Foley, aged 68, long a familiar Sikeston figure, died by self-inflicted gunshot. Her body was buried without ceremony until neighbors funded a proper funeral and burial in Sikeston City Cemetery.
