He claims he could pay debts and wants to stay, but the supervisor insists on leaving.

Youths Re Jailed After Brief Liberty
Four Indiana youths escaped Scott county jail at Benton by chipping concrete from bars then fled into the jail hall. They were recaptured that night at Chaffee station and yards, returning to custody. One accomplice remained, citing trouble. Meanwhile the B 29 bomber has been named Superfortress.

Coast Guard Band Delights Sikeston with War Bond Drive
The United States Coast Guard Band of St Louis performed in Sikeston to open the Fourth War Loan Drive drawing about two thousand listeners. Highlights included operatic numbers, WWI medleys, and a solo by Ray Olson. Local ex servicemen were honored, and bandsmen urged war bond purchases as the tour continued through Cairo Caruthersville and Kennett with multiple school concerts en route.

McCutchen Buys Chaney Lots in Sikeston
O W McCutchen of Blytheville Arkansas owner of Sikeston s Malone and Rex Theatres this week purchased the property between the Slack building and the Del Rey Hotel on North Kings Highway known as the Chaney land. The seller was Mrs Earl Riga of Tampa Florida the former Marie Chaney. The Chaney family had owned the site which includes an old privately owned swimming pool. No immediate plans for the property have been announced by McCutchen.

Mild Warm Spell Hits Southeast Missouri Weather
The warmest spell in weeks brought a 35 degree low in Southeast Missouri yesterday. Friday dipped to 18 degrees and the high reached 57. Meteorologist Albert Klamm of the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics predicts warmer weather tomorrow followed by colder, cloudy conditions Saturday and Sunday.

Scott County Reports 2400 Men in Army
Scott County has sent about 2400 men to war, estimated by Norman Bugg, chief clerk of the draft board. The figure includes those called when the National Guard was mobilized three years ago. Seventy county men are at Jefferson Barracks today for induction fitting. The draft, like recent calls, largely reclassified men and pre Pearl Harbor fathers. The county has few original 1-A men left.

Prewar fathers drafted well below wartime target
About 90,000 fathers were inducted by December 31, far from the 446,000 the selective service expected to need to meet goals. Lieut. Col Francis V. Keesling told Congress this week that plans call for inducting 700,000 men beyond replacements. He said a considerable number of prewar dads would be needed.

Good Start for War Bond Drive
About 150 volunteer workers canvassed Sikeston houseto house yesterday afternoon for the Fourth War Loan. Most blocks were covered, with only a few ill workers and a handful of missing ships. District captains will arrange calls for pledges, and early pledges show strong support though totals to reach the $265,000 goal are not yet known. In Scott County the Hunter school district surpassed its $2,423 goal with $3,293.75 pledged. The county aims for $660,000 as other towns begin canvasses, while nationwide five million volunteers push the $14,000,000,000 Fourth War Loan, aiming to raise $5,500,000,000 from individuals. The next two weeks focus on individuals before insurance firms and banks enter the campaign.
