Mr and Mrs J M Pitman owners of Pitman Tailors and Cleaners celebrate their twenty fifth anniversary in Sikeston with a streamlined reopening on North Kings highway after a month of remodeling. The plant features new steam presses vacuum systems and upgraded facilities including a 40 by 40 foot cleaning building with washers filters and a Hoff man tumbler. Mrs Ruby Newsom serves as bookkeeper and additional staff will operate the machines on February 1.

Sikeston USO to Host Open House Weekend Anniversary
Sikeston USO Club on South Kingshighway will hold an open house Saturday and Sunday February 5 and 6 to celebrate the service center's first anniversary. Hostess Mrs Harry Ever invites parents and relatives of service men to visit and see the hospitality offered soldiers sailors and marines by the United Service Organizations. Refreshments will be served to civilian visitors. All facilities will be in use as on ordinary weekends, giving guests a view of the clubroom atmosphere and activities. Lilbourn Fire Destroys Casket Factory and Home
Damage estimated over 15000 dollars occurred when the Lilbourn Casket Factory owned by L M Hill burned early Sunday. Two ambulances inside the building were destroyed along with a nearby residence belonging to M L Castlebury occupied by R A Rhabottom. No insurance was reported. Mr and Mrs J H Crosno were guests in Matthews.

Negro Yardman Held for Murder in Scott County
Frank Thomas a Sikeston Negro yardman was ordered held for trial on first degree murder charges after a preliminary hearing in Scott county. Witnesses included Johnetta Robinson a material witness, and evidence cited by the state included blood stained clothes and a blood spotted ledger found in Thomas's cabin. Eugene Munger defended Thomas.

Mrs Pauline Frances Albrecht 68 wife of John W Albrecht of Illmo was killed instantly late Wednesday when struck by an eastbound freight while crossing tracks at the Ilimo yards water tower She was born April 23 1877 in Illmo and lived there all her life Survivors include her husband two sons Gerald Albrecht of Imo and Staff Sgt Wilson A Albrecht with the Army Air Forces at Yuma Ariz Her father Martin Bohnharadt of Illmo also survives

Funeral tomorrow for Judge Frank Kelly
Judge Frank Kelly aged 76, long serving member of the 28th Judicial District and former Scott County prosecuting attorney, died yesterday at St Francis hospital Cape Girardeau after weeks of ill health. Funeral services set for 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Walther Funeral Home. He leaves wife Mary Kuehnert, son Emmett, daughter Clara, two brothers and two grandchildren. Born February 28, 1867 in St Louis, his career spanned law, teaching, and public service in Cape Girardeau and nearby counties.

W. W. Lawson arrived in Sikeston weeks ago claiming ties to national figures and ran the Lawson Business Service with an office in a local hotel. He advertised tax return work and faced allegations of unpaid wages and bad checks. State Patrol traced him and his wife to Kansas City before the trail went cold.

Dr Mayfield Stricken With Heart Attacks
Dr. A. A. Mayfield, a respected Sikeston physician, suffered a severe heart attack at his South Kingshighway home Tuesday night. Four subsequent, lesser attacks followed. His condition today is slightly improved and he plans to seek heart specialist care at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis when able.

Cadets Entertained at Sikeston USO Center
One hundred seventy five aviation cadets from the Missouri Institute of Aeronautics were entertained at the Sikeston USO center over the weekend, reported hostess Mrs. Harry Dover. Circle One of the Methodist Women’s Society for Christian Service supplied refreshments, with several service men passing through also joining. Nazarene congregation ladies recently served refreshments to the cadets and their relatives, who praised the homemade cakes.

Farmer Killed By Falling Tree Near Commerce
Arthur A. Schiwitz a 57 year old farmer died after a tree split as it fell striking him while he and his sons felling timber at their Commerce farm. He served in World War I and belonged to the Lutheran church AAA board American Legion post and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his widow three sons two sisters and four brothers last rites held at the Lutheran church in Mmo with Rev. R. Borth officiating.
