Sikeston opens 1940 with a building boom as numerous homes rise or near completion. A new water well is drilled beyond 300 feet in Waterworks Park and a water tank foundation is being poured on Center street. New residences on East Gladys Street Tanner and Dement streets, and for Crenshaw and Moll near School and William streets. The suit filed in Federal Court at Cape Girardeau charges Mrs Wade Anderson and the American Surety Company with wrongful assault and bond liability in the 1938 death of James De Boe, who was shot during an altercation at the Peaceful Grove tavern near Ancell. De Boe died days after the incident.

Veterans Train For Police Duty In Sikeston Unit
Thirty six members of the American Legion attended the first instruction period of Sikeston s newly formed Legion police force led by Maj C L Malone. After training they will be commissioned as special police officers by the city. New Hotel Marshall Ownership Takes Charge Tomorrow
J I Dunn and son Ernest A Dunn will assume control of Hotel Marshall tomorrow after purchasing the property from the Matthews Estate in December. The Van Arsdales, who ran the hotel for 17 years, will relinquish management and stay in the Chamber of Commerce addition. Q Many renovations are planned including new furnishings for all 54 rooms, a remodeled dining room, expanded Coffee Shop, new flooring, and a possible 26-room extension with an elevator if business warrants. The Dunns also own the Dunn Hotel in Poplar Bluff, with Ernest to manage the local property while his father stays on for two weeks.
