Frank W. Riga, 70, retired railroad engineer from St. Louis, was killed and his son E. A. Riga was slightly injured when their car was struck near Tampa Florida by a motorist who was later exonerated. The Rigas were visiting Earl Riga and his wife. Earl Riga, formerly of Sikeston, previously lived there and worked for Matt Murray, a former Missouri WPA administrator.

Writer of Bad Checks Caught
George W. Nelms 58 was captured yesterday by State Highway Patrolman Sgt. Melvin Dace after weeks as a fugitive on charges of writing checks with no funds. Nelms, of Houston Texas, was arrested while driving a 1937 Packard on Highway 61 near Sikeston and faced extradition for felony charges. Receipts showed limited payments, and Nelms claimed work as an oil operator and drilling contractor with ties to Antlers Hotel in Taylorville Illinois.

Carl Brown a 17 year old Sikes ton youth waived preliminary hearing and was bound over to the March term of Scott county circuit court following his confession on Monday morning to the robbing of the Energy Coal Company service station north of the E C Robinson Lumber sheds on Highway 60. He allegedly broke in Sunday night and escaped with 6 dollars. He was released from jail yesterday on 300 dollar bond to await trial at Benton. The robbery occurred after 8 30 when station attendant Dale Enterline left with a companion to eat. They returned about 9 to recover Enterline's Chevrolet pickup and found the door to the station sprung open. 6 dollars was missing from a book in a switch box in the lavatory. Police were notified and officers found the tool used to pry the door under the pickup seat. The suspect is believed familiar with the case. Continued on page four.

George Bartlett of Reiss Dairy was uninjured when a 1939 Chevrolet milk truck careened off Highway 55 east of Oran early Tuesday and overturned in a roadside ditch. The mishap, caused by slick roadway, left the truck damaged at 50 to 75 dollars and spilled roughly twenty gallons of raw milk.

Stanford Jones Injured In Fall At Municipal Plant
Stanford Jones, 29, fell from a 14 foot high derrick on the municipal light and power plant grounds yesterday. He lost footing on a board and struck a wooden platform suffering concussion, shock, a badly injured shoulder and a 2.5 inch scalp laceration. Treated by Dr. G W H Presnell and transported to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau for x rays and observation. Jones works for the contractor directing drilling begun January 20, with weather delaying progress and depth just over 200 feet.

Local teachers to visit city schools plan
Sikeston public schools will implement a visitation program to link teaching with business and professional communities. Over six to eight weeks five to ten teachers will be excused each Thursday afternoon to observe methods in other schools and discuss them with visiting teachers.
