Mr and Mrs Harry Stacy honeymooning in New Orleans and southern cities were injured Saturday morning when their Chevrolet collided head on with a southbound car near Wilson Arkansas. Mrs Stacy Miss Wan tona Watson suffered a severe facial cut while her husband sustained a head wound. They were treated at the Wilson Clinic then returned to Sikeston by bus. Malone, works to perfect a new volunteer police unit of 15 to 20 trained men who will serve without pay on mayoral calls during disasters or special needs. Final Stage of Relief Survey in Southeast Missouri
After a month long survey to count unemployed sharecroppers tenants and day laborers without 1940 contracts across six southeast Missouri cotton counties the Missouri State Employment Service will close district branch offices and end initiative per Gov Lloyd C Stark. The effort followed a January 5 meeting with landowners and laborers in St Louis and a Governor’s investigation committee including FSA officials. The project counted about 500 dependent tenants and sharecroppers and about 300 day laborers though the latter are not the target of the relief measure. Sub offices at Charleston New Madrid Malden Dexter with Kennett Caruthersville and Sikeston HQ will close today and a final report will be sent to the PSA and the Governor’s committee. The report will be prepared by Carl Wedeking district supervisor.
