Special Legislative Action Follows Ou sting of Training School Board
After Governor Donnelly dismissed the State Training School Board and superintendent at Boonville, both chambers of the Missouri Legislature formed study committees on conditions at the school. The Senate passed a bill proposing indeterminate sentences for youth, transfer of incorrigible boys to penal institutions, and cooperation with other state agencies. The Governor placed the school under Highway Patrol supervision, which reported inefficiency. State director Louis J. Sharp resigned, and Fred Naeter of the Southeast Missourian, a board member, commented that Donnelly acted unwisely and that the board’s dismissal provoked the response.

The week saw the lowest temperature of 12 degrees last Friday morning and a high of 45 degrees yesterday. Readings included 16 degrees for three days, 32 degrees yesterday morning, and 29 degrees this morning. Precipitation and melted snow totaled .68 of an inch.
County budget hike due to 1948 election year costs
Scott County Court fixed the 1948 budget at 158 175.16 dollars, about 12 000 higher than 1947. The increase funds the self sustaining road program and county operations, using 104 000 from current revenue and 36 500 from unobligated reserves, with a 10 percent delinquency reserve.
