The Scott County Farm Bureau will hold its annual meeting on Wednesday February 8 at the Benton community building from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm Reports will cover 1959 Extension work with leaders from 4-H Home Economics Balanced Farming Rural Health and Rural Programs. Frank D Johnson Missouri Farm Bureau Federation secretary treasurer will speak All members are invited. The Farm Bureau Service Company meeting will also be held.

Morehouse Youth Killed Near Perryville
Joseph Benjamin Keele, 19, of Morehouse was killed Saturday near Perryville when his car struck a southbound pickup on Highway 25, left the road, and plunged into Cinque Homme creek. Albert Mullins, 22, was critically injured and hospitalized in Cape Girardeau. Keele's funeral was held at Morehouse High School gym with burial at Woodlawn cemetery in Poplar Bluff. Keele was employed locally and attended schools in Poplar Bluff and Lilbourn. survivors include his parents and two sisters.

Icy roads drive up wrecker calls and damage
Ice storms trigger widespread crashes along Highway 61 near Sikeston causing several rollovers and minor injuries. Cars skidded into ditches as trees, lines and utilities fell, leaving Sikeston and nearby towns without power and many homes without heat while crews work to restore service and clear debris.

Recreation Leaders Meet for All-Day 4-H Training
4-H recreation leaders from Cape Girardeau, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, and Scott counties convened at Sikeston High School Auditorium for an all-day training session. Eldon Williams and Lester Akers led the program, with Supt. Bremen VanBibber coordinating through Scott County Extension Agents. About 115 leaders were expected, learning techniques to apply to clubs in the 1950 4-H program.

At a stockholders meeting in Bailey and Craig offices the gin in Sikeston was sold to Tom Allen and Jackson Davis of Sikeston. Donald Storey of Matthews will manage the gin and move to Sikeston soon. Majority stockholders include Mrs. L M. Stallcup of Sikeston and Cassius Clay of Mexico. Planters Cotton Co organized in 1924 with $50 000 capital.

Home of Wattses in East Acres Burned Yesterday
The Watts family home at College and Moore streets in East Acres was nearly destroyed by a fire yesterday morning. Mr Watts suffered burns on both hands while attempting to save belongings. the cause is unknown and the fire was already out of control when found. Insurance is believed to cover most of the loss.

House approves cotton allotment expansion under new law
The National House of Representatives approved a bill to allot up to 1,400,000 additional cotton planting acres and limit further acreage cuts. It would grant extra land to farmers hit hardest by the recent reductions and add about 100,000 acres for peanut growers in Alabama and Texas affected by existing allotments.
