Sikeston Girl in State College Choir to Tour Southeast Missouri
Carolyn Wilkinson, Sikeston daughter of Mr and Mrs Carl C Wilkinson, is a member of the 44 voice a cappella choir of State College Cape Girardeau. The group will tour five Southeast Missouri communities February 12 to 14 under Professor J Clyde Brandt, performing sacred music, folk songs, and solos, with the Statesmen Quartet. Stops include Piedmont Doniphan Alton Thayer and Van Buren. The choir travels by February 12 to Piedmont at 3 PM, 11:00 AM in Doniphan February 13, and 2:30 PM in Alton, 8:00 PM Thayer February 13, with an 11:00 AM Tuesday concert in Van Buren.

Robbers Take $20 From Safe In Store Heist
P J Schlasser shows the stolen safe from his store after a Friday night break in. The safe, opened with the combination knocked off, yielded $10 in cash and some bonds. The robbery team moved a heavy counter to remove the 100 pound safe and fled in a waiting car or truck. A .22 semi auto pistol and a .22 clip shot rifle were taken along with two rifles reported by Schlasser. No suspects identified yet.

Easter Seal Campaign Opens March for Missouri Children

Fire Bug held in New Madrid jail
Melvin Ray 23 of Morehouse is held in New Madrid county jail after confessing to four fires in Morehouse causing about 60000 in damage. He was questioned in Sikeston with officials present and admitted arson at the Butler store and tavern and the bank office complex. His mother narrowly escaped injury during one blaze.

Car Crash Leaves Three Injured Near Kingshighway
James Stone of Vanclyser escaped serious injury when his 1940 Ford ran onto North Kingshighway from Cleveland street and struck a telephone pole. Passenger Leon Miller suffered a fractured hip and William Thompson is in serious condition at Missouri Delta Community Hospital. Police accuse careless driving while intoxicated. Stone was arrested and jailed.

Postmaster Pleas Malcolm said the trial will determine if late-hour Sundays become permanent and noted reports were sent to the Post Office Department for review.
